I was so sad to hear of the passing of Ed Mezzio. While in high school, we pratically lived up at the S&M Sunoco station just passing the time away, and helping Ed and the guys out with pumping gas and cleaning a few windshields (yes, it was done back then!) Ed was always kind to us teenagers. I was so glad that I got to stop in and see him when I was home last October. He was doing what he loved to do best...working on something in his garage. Thanks Ed for being a good role model.

Summer evenings with your friends at the "Point"...Drum Corps practicing at Memorial Park...playing golf with friends at Shorewood..."Camp in the Woods" on Bear Lake...cheeseburgers at the "Covered Wagon"...enduring all the rocks getting out to the sandy bottom in lake Erie...having a beer with the guys at the "Pines"...watching movies all day Saturday with all your friends at the Capitol Theater...bonfires on the beach at night...the best memories of Summer growing up in Dunkirk!

Hey folks, there is an editorial in the Observer regarding the long missing King Neptune. I think a great place for the "King" is in front of City Hall, with City workers doing the installation. It's a natural.

I too used to live in Dunkirk & this forum sure does bring back a lot of fond memories. Hey Tim, Somewhere among my stuff I have an old Observer pic of me from the early '70's' when I worked for the DPW. It shows me and Russ Falco & Milt Sprague at Mem.park breaking up the base from the old wooden flagpole. Man, I still get a chill when I think of that -20 deg. windchill Jan. day.

Anyone ever see any of the Anson twins, Jean or Joan, from DHS Class of '71, in town?
Man, I miss that hotdog stand by the lake (forgot the name of it), but since moving away I forgot most of old places - except ol' School #7.

Since there is a glaring void in this guestbook lately, it should give Dave an opportunity to check with Fredonia State to determine why King Neptune is in residence at said college.

My grandfather Joesph LaPaglia was a caring Doctor for 53 years in Dunkirk, his office was out of his home on Lincoln. My father was Vincent LaPaglia a much loved Dentist until his early death in 1964.It's nice to know they are still thought of.

You are right, it was Dr. Anthony Conti on the corner of 5th and Deer, and he had chiropractic equipment in his home. At the time I didnt know what it was because I had never been to a chiro -- it just looked like torture equipment to me, and I was too afraid to ask because HE WAS CRANKY! Believe me, he was my downstairs landlord.

Dr. Lou Conti was my family doctor from the day I was born to when I finished college. He was present for both surgical procedures I had in my youth. He had an interesting sense of humor but was never, to me, cranky.

DR, LOUIS CONTI IS IN MY OPINION ONE OF THE GREATEST DOCTORS IN DUNKIRK. YOU ARE REFERING TO I BELIEVE DR. ANTHONY CONTI FROM DEER ST. HE WAS NOT AN MD.
