Coal supply must be known5/9/2008 - Most Americans probably have heard the estimate that the United States has enough coal to meet our energy needs for another 250 years.
Planning offers comfort at end-of-life5/9/2008 - A few months ago, after a lengthy decline in her health, my mother died. In her final weeks she was comfortable in our home and surrounded by those she loved.
Who’s influential?5/9/2008 - Time magazine has published another one of those silly and meaningless lists some in the media occasionally and irritatingly compile to validate their self-importance. It is the 100 “most influential people in the world.” I didn’t make it, but then I don’t make other lists like People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive,” which must be an oversight.

Dangers seen in ‘bright spots’5/8/2008 - It is no doubt that the U.S. economy is in a slowdown, but it has not become a recession, according to a report released this week. That is good news, of course — but one of the “bright spots” in the report is troubling.
Mother’s Day: its history and meaning5/8/2008 - Funny isn’t it how celebrations stray from their original purpose. The OBSERVER’s View5/6/2008 - Reducing gasoline prices by 18.4 cents per gallon will provide little more than a psychological boost for American motorists. Fuel prices, averaging about $3.60 a gallon, can fluctuate by 18.4 cents — up or down — within just a few weeks.
I love you back5/6/2008 - An English professor at the State University at Fredonia read the following quote by Nathaniel Hawthorne to his publisher William D. Ticknor in 1855: “America is now wholly given over to a damned mob of scribbling women and I should have no chance of success while the public taste is occupied with their trash — and should be ashamed of myself if I did succeed.”
Fredonia is a great place to live5/6/2008 - Editor, OBSERVER:

Traitors must face penalties5/5/2008 - The United States and Israel are among the closest allies in the world community. It is no exaggeration to suggest that without U.S. help and support, Israel’s ongoing struggle to survive would have been — and would be — much, much more difficult than has been the case.
