5/11/2008 - Health insurance is a key factor in determining whether children receive the medical care they need. Uninsured children are much more likely than insured children to go without necessary medical care due to costs and often have unmet medical needs. During May, the Chautauqua County Health Network (CCHN) seeks to raise awareness of the need for affordable health insurance for children.

Prendergast Library seeks book sale donations
5/5/2008 - JAMESTOWN — The James Prendergast Library is accepting donations through June 1 for its 29th annual book sale to be held from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, June 13, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 14.


Graycliff Conservancy hosting lecture series on architect’s women patrons
5/5/2008 - DERBY — The Graycliff Conservancy Inc. announces a major lecture series for 2008. Three lectures by noted experts on the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright will take place on selected dates in spring and fall.


Seats available for Amish trip
5/5/2008 - WESTFIELD — Seats are still available for the Pennsylvania Amish lands trip sponsored by the Westfield Recreation Department. The group will travel the Amishlands of Pennsylvania May 19 to 21. This trip will include two nights lodging, two breakfasts, two full-course dinners (including a family-style dinner), guided Amishlands tour, two shows (“Abraham & Sarah” and “Classic Crooners”), the Kitchen Kettle Village, Rockvale Square Outlets, a souvenir gift, luggage handling, taxes and standard gratuities and motor coach transportation. Cancellation insurance is available upon request.

United Angels holding fundraiser
5/2/2008 - SILVER CREEK — United Angels Youth Group is hosting an all-you-can-eat spaghetti and meatballs or chicken and biscuit dinner on Saturday from 4:30 to 7 p.m. It will be held at First United Church, 35 Park Place.

Cassadaga auxiliary has informal meeting
5/1/2008 - CASSADAGA — An informal meeting of the Cassadaga Legion Auxiliary Unit 1280 was held in April with seven members attending. Correspondence was read by Sally Lawson.


Local event to help troops in need of basic necessities
5/1/2008 - American troops are in desperate need of the everyday, common items that we, in the States, take for granted. A local event has joined together with the Blue Star Mothers to support troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.


Grand matron, patron visit Chautauqua District OES
5/1/2008 - Chautauqua District Order of the Eastern Star hosted the official visit of Jodelle C. Fletcher, grand matron, and Clifford L. Gross, grand patron, at First Lutheran Church in Jamestown for dinner and a meeting.

Non-profits invited to free endowment seminar
4/28/2008 - The Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation (NCCF) and Chautauqua Region Community Foundation (CRCF) will co-sponsor a free seminar on endowment fund building for not-for-profit organizations. The sessions will mirror each other in content and will be held at either end of the county for the convenience of the local organizations.

Students respond to call to help local families in need
4/28/2008 - Operation Breakfast Rescue” is a breakfast food item donation drive to benefit the Chautauqua Country Rural Ministry, which began during March. The Rural Ministry is in need of breakfast items, such as cereal, oatmeal, pancake mix, breakfast bars, canned fruit or other shelf-stable foods.
