Three charged with making meth in city
Three people have been arrested for allegedly manufacturing methamphetamine in the city of Dunkirk.
On Monday, at about 11:20 p.m., the City of Dunkirk Police Department received information that Jeremiah Haas, 39, of Dunkirk, who had an outstanding warrant from the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, was at 27 Leming St. in the city. Officers responded to that location and found Haas and Torry R. Kenny, 23, of Westfield, in a bedroom belonging to Lydia Franklin, 18, of Dunkirk.
While officers were on scene they allegedly observed evidence of narcotic activity and subsequently obtained a search warrant from Judge Walter Drag. As a result of the search warrant, officers said they located a quantity of methamphetamine and materials for the manufacture of methamphetamine.
A 10-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy were present in the home at the time.
Haas, Franklin and Kenny were all charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, third-degree unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine (class D felony), second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (class A felony), second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
Haas’s previous charges included second-degree harassment and criminal obstruction of breathing, for which the arrest warrant had been issued from Silver Creek Village Court.
Dunkirk Police Department was assisted by the Dunkirk Fire, Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force, and HAZMAT. Once the search was completed, a site remediation occurred to clean up and dispose of all hazardous materials that had been produced by the manufacturing of the methamphetamine.
Kenny, Franklin and Haas were all transported to Dunkirk City Jail and then arraigned before Judge Drag. All three were then taken to Chautauqua County Jail pending further action by the court.
The Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force continues to ask members of the community to call when they observe suspicious or narcotics-related activity within their communities at either 800-344-8702 or 363-0313.
