Woman, 28, charged in Lake Shore Drive murder
A Dunkirk woman is facing second-degree murder charges after a shooting around 10 p.m. Thursday night.
Dunkirk police were dispatched 141 Lake Shore Drive East. Upon arrival, a male victim was found lying unresponsive in the yard outside the residence. The victim was transported to Brooks Hospital by ambulance where he was pronounced dead.
A neighbor of the scene said she heard what sounded like a firecracker going off. Minutes later she saw emergency vehicles swarming the block.
The investigation led to the arrest of Rebecca Ruiz, 28, of the same address as the shooting, who was being held at the Dunkirk Police lock-up pending arraignment. The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The police believe that the shooting was an isolated incident and not a random act. Dunkirk Police were assisted at the scene by Fredonia Police, New York State Police, Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department, the county Forensic Team, and the District Attorney’s office.
Anyone with any additional information can contact the Dunkirk Police Department at 366-2266 or the confidential tip line at 363-0313.
It is the second shooting in as many months in the city. The most recent incident occurred in May at the Halas Hotel. On that evening of May 21, Brocton’s Hector Camacho was charged in the Second Street incident that occurred at 1:30 a.m. No one was injured in that incident.
