Semi truck fire causes havoc on I-90
Overheated breaks are to blame for a semi truck bursting into flames Saturday morning on the I-90 near the Fredonia exit.
At around 9 a.m., a report of a tire fire of a semi truck traveling east on I-90 transporting food had occurred.
“We got dispatched to a trailer tire on fire,” Fredonia Fire Department firefighter Kirk Miller said. “When we arrived, it was a fully-involved refrigerator trailer.”
Traffic heading east on the I-90 was directed off the Thruway.
Fredonia Fire Department, East Town of Dunkirk and Sheridan Fire Department were all on scene to assist in putting out the flames.
It took nearly 20 minutes to knock down the fire, and no one was injured.
The firefighters were on scene until roughly 12:15 p.m., with the right lane closed beyond 2 p.m.
Chief in Charge of the fire was assistant chief John Lanphere.
