HAPPENING NOW: North county digs out from morning storm
A lake-effect snowstorm dropped about a foot of snow on northern Chautauqua County this morning, leading to a travel ban in Fredonia while creating frustrations for a number of motorists and residents.
National Weather Service spotters reported 8.5 inches of snow in Silver Creek with 6.5 inches falling in Dunkirk. According to a press release from the Fredonia Police Chief Brad Meyers, “Effective 11 a.m. today, the winter travel ban will be amended to a winter weather travel advisory. The advisory was to end at 3 p.m.
The Fredonia Department of Public works is asking for your assistance in keeping parked vehicles off the roadway to assist in snow removal.
A winter storm warning remains in effect through this afternoon.
