A horse is just a horse of course

April 30, 2009 - Craig Harvey
I recently googled my name and found a Craig Harvey that is a Chief Coroner Investigator and Chief of Operations at the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner.

That Craig Harvey has been instrumental in providing Forensic Science Academy students with up-to-date Death Investigation information and training.

Does that Craig Harvey have local ties to Chautauqua County?

Is that accomplishment by that Craig Harvey insignificant to Chautauqua County?

Dunkirk the horse will compte/competed in the Kentucky Derby. The horse is named after Dunkirk, France, not Dunkirk, N.Y. The owners are from France, the horse has never been through Chautauqua County and there isn't even a horse barn in Dunkirk, N.Y.

So to ask the same two questions again.

Does that Dunkirk have local ties to Chautauqua County?

Is the accomplishment by that Dunkirk insignificant to Chautauqua County?

Maybe ESPN 2 will air the woodchuck chucking contest and we can all root for Westfield the Woodchuck from Westfield, Australia. Or maybe Brocton the baboon from Brocton, England will compete on SNY in a feces throwing competition.

So if you follow Dunkirk the horse's career and he does poorly, don't take it to heart. He isn't even aware of Dunkirk, N.Y. And if he does really well, don't get too excited because the last place he is thinking about is Dunkirk, N.Y. - he is just a horse.

Maybe one day a Craig Harvey will come along and find a cure for cancer. Then, I can celebrate and have a story written about me in the paper and how someone I have no association with helped change the world.
