Legislator accomplishments

Now that the Chautauqua County Legislature has defeated plans to reduce its size from 25 — twice — and also rejected a proposal for no pay, here are the lawmakers’ accomplishments for the first five months of 2010:

• They have met in session six times.

• They have twice approved keeping their jobs.

• They have approved keeping their pay.

Soon the real work begins — the realization of an $18 million deficit for the county. Their current record shows they really aren't ready to cut anything — unless they plan to do as they say, not like they do.
