The do-nothing crew
December 9, 2010 - John D'Agostino
In my Friday Publisher’s Notebook, I take a look back at 2010 for our favorite elected officials who have continued their tradition of doing nothing — the Chautauqua County Legislature.
Just weeks after a report named Chautauqua County one of the 10 highest taxed counties in the nation, our illustrious elected officials added to that problem by increasing our county property taxes by 9 percent. Just what message does that send businesses who are looking to build or locate facilities in Western New York?
If Verizon and Yahoo! in Niagara County are any indication, businesses are locating in any other county but Chautauqua.
But our legislators, as evidenced by increasing taxes 9 percent for 2011, are not worried about serving their constituents, bringing in jobs or helping grow business in Chautauqua County. They are more interested in themselves and serving their party that helped get them elected.
