Holly and jolly

November 29, 2011 - April Diodato
It may be a little difficult to get into the holiday spirit with this unseasonably warm and tornadic November we've been having, but with just two days remaining before December, why not start celebrating? The best Christmas specials are on TV early in the season and typically not more than once.

The classic "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" by Rankin/Bass will be on tonight at 8 p.m. on CBS, the only showing scheduled for this year. (Unfortunately, it conflicts with "Glee," which has been exceptionally juicy this season -- especially the last episode!). I love it because I discover new details each year, things I wouldn't necessarily have noticed while watching as a kid.

"Christmas in Rockefeller Center" will be on tomorrow (Nov. 30) on NBC at 8 p.m. with a bunch of celebs singing Christmas songs -- just in time to promote their holiday projects! -- including Justin Bieber, Tony Bennett, Cee Lo Green and more. Let's hope Bieber can manage to remember the words this time.

Other specials to set the DVR for, airing the first week in December:

- Saturday, Dec. 3: "It's a Wonderful Life," 8 p.m., NBC

- Monday, Dec. 5: "A Charlie Brown Christmas," 8 p.m., ABC

And while we're on the subject of Christmas and nostalgia, the deadline for submissions for our Christmas memories section is Monday, Dec. 5. Send 'em over to adiodato@observertoday.com.
