High on history

July 14, 2008 - John D'Agostino
In case you have not noticed, two of our municipalities in the region this newspaper covers are celebrating bicentennials this year.

Over the weekend, the village of Forestville held a parade and a ceremony for a landmark that denotes the 200th anniversary of the village. And while the milestone is a big deal, those who organized the events had hoped for more support from the Village Board. Members there, however, have other issues to address.

In Pomfret, the annual Victorian Dazzle this weekend will focus on the town's 200th birthday. This step back in time brings with it the fashions, carriage rides and ghost tours in the heart of Fredonia on Saturday and Sunday July 19 and 20. Also, a tour of some of the town’s historic homes are also planned.

More information on these celebrations can be found on the Web sites within this blog.
