'The Voice' recap: Top 10

Almost every remaining singer on “The Voice” was excellent last night. It all comes down to who motivated voters most – and hairstyles seem to matter just as much as vocal ability (Michaela Paige learned that lesson the hard way). Since singers with singles in the iTunes top 10 get their votes multiplied times 10, it's safe to say that Cassadee Pope will be sticking around – her song hit number one!

Here's my assessment of last night's episode:

Breakout performance: I haven't been a fan of Pope so far, but her performance of “Over You” was a game-changer. She's certainly got the fan base to keep voting her on and last night proved that she has the pipes as well. Hipsters with "Hey Monday" on their iPods swear they liked her before she was cool.

Back in the game: After last week's misstep, Amanda Brown picked the perfect song, “Stars” by Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, and sang it as only she could. I'd still like to see her win it all. Not only did her song reach No. 15 on iTunes, but she gave Potter a boost as well – the original “Stars” hit No. 23.

Top team: My top three favorites from last night were Brown, Melanie Martinez and Bryan Keith – all three remaining members of Team Adam. I think he's the only coach who doesn't have to worry his pretty little head over losing a teammate tonight. Martinez made it to No. 13 on the iTunes chart with her infectious spin on “Seven Nation Army.”

Worst song choice: Trevin Hunte wanted everyone to remember how young he is... and I think he was successful, but for all the wrong reasons. He may have the voice of an “angel,” however, he does not have the dancing skills of Usher. Team Cee Lo's guest advisor, Jennifer Hudson, looked like she wanted to shake him silly when he insisted on singing “Scream.” Show her some respect, young man! She has an Oscar! At least an off day for Hunte made things interesting – I just can't take anymore over-the-top praise from the coaches – and allowed some of the other singers to shine.

Most insane performance (and most questionable fashion decision): When Cody Belew, in his multi-length-sleeved, bedazzled leather jacket, sang the lyrics, “Got me lookin' so crazy right now,” I had to nod my head in agreement. It was all I could do – I was stunned. Along with his ensemble, I really question the advice the coaches gave him last week when they demanded more “bopping.” This is a singing competition, after all. I think the startled expression on Jennifer Hudson's face in the rehearsal room said it all. Can we have her on every week?

Most Questionable Fashion Decision Runner-Up: Was Pope wearing white pants with a white gown that might be fancied by a disco bride? Whatever it was, it was bad.

My pick for the bottom two: Belew and Sylvia Yacoub. If he wants to make it another week, he should stick to what he's good at – like he did with “Jolene” – instead of focusing too much on the choreography; it didn't work out so well for his battle opponent Domo, did it? Yacoub, while talented, keeps selecting songs that she can't quite nail. There are so many other singers still left that I'd rather see move on.
