Elected health benefits

Towns of Westfield, Hanover lead way

August 6, 2007

When Fredonia Mayor Michael Sullivan ran for office a little over three months ago, one of his stances against then-Mayor Frank Pagano, was that Pagano was getting health insurance. Sullivan complained that the position of mayor is not a full-time job and therefore doesn't warrant health insurance coverage. Since taking office, Sullivan has continued to not accept health insurance, nor does he take a buy-back. But even with him not accepting insurance, there are a few elected officials that do get it. Most towns provide health insurance to their elected town clerks and highway superintendents. Villages and cities have clerks and highway superintendents that are appointed.
