Momentary fix is not the answer
Editor, OBSERVER: Not only must you listen to economists of the caliber of Nobel Prize winner Joseph Stiglitz, you must stop the further degradation of our system of checks and balances by giving the executive branch even further unilateral authority. This is not acceptable. Do not allow President Bush to use this economic crisis to bully the legislature into giving the executive branch further carte blanche authority. As we saw last week, the stock market recovered more than half of its losses. The stock market should not be deciding how our legislators react. It is we who should be controlling how the stock market responds. Where in the constitution does it say that we are a country run by the whims of the stock market? I can assure you, if you vote for a measure that rewards those who got this country into this mess and neglects provisions for the majority of the citizens of this country, then you will certainly not get my vote when you are up for re-election.
