A walk on the beach on Easter Sunday of 1985 depressed Angola resident Sharen Trembath and her son so immensely that it motivated her to change the world. Now 23 years later, Nabisco 100 Calorie Packs has named her one of “100 Extraordinary Women.” That day on the beach, she found a dialysis bag on the shore, making it the 20th one she had discovered. Frustrated and disgusted, she kicked it into the water, venting to her son that nobody cared about the environment. He told her she was wrong. They cared. Trembath photocopied the dialysis bag, tubing and all, and sent the image to 25 organizations, including the health department, mayor, governor, United States Environmental Protection Agency, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and FBI, hoping they could help her identify where the debris was coming from. “My argument was that I have this dialysis bag with the tubing and I had the expiration date, I had the lot number, why can’t you help me?
