The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 106 broke ground recently on a new facility that officials say will enable the union to have a presence in Jamestown for another 100 years. That day, representatives of the IBEW, along with Sen. Cathy Young, R-Olean, and Mayor Sam Teresi gathered to break ground on the 7,500-square-foot addition, which is located at the IBEW’s campus on James Avenue across from Jamestown Community College. The $1.5 million project increases the existing facility to 10,000 square feet. ‘‘This much-needed expansion provides our trainers with a new state-of-the-art educational and lab space to train new generations of skilled electricians,’’ said Business Manager Dave Wilkinson. In addition to four new classrooms, the center will also feature a computer data lab, a shop and group training room for 60. The original structure will be remodeled for secure administrative space.
