Region hires 150 to run rec programs
Are you a teenager in need of a summer job? Were you hoping to work for your local municipal government’s youth program? If you don’t have a job yet, you may be out of luck. The OBSERVER recently requested area municipalities list the number of youths they hire for their summer programs, along with their pay. Not too surprisingly, the youths pay generally ranges from minimum wage for the typical worker to around $10 for lifeguards and $13 for supervisory positions. The hardest part can be landing one of those jobs. Municipalities say they advertise when they have openings, but typically most of the time when a teenager is hired, he or she is often brought back the following year, as long as their weren’t any problems. This can continue all through college. Plus, a lot of times individuals who attended the annual summer programs when they were younger are a natural fit when they are old enough to be employed.
