Lots invested in Home upgrades

January 12, 2013

Editor, OBSERVER: Much has been written about the possible sale of the Chautauqua County Home. The commentary “Concerns enough to prevent sale” (Dec. 23) had some valid points....

Wasn't one of those upgrades the gas wel - - oops, never mind.

What if you, at your own job, made a $250,000-$350,000 mistake with other folks' money? And refused to answer their questions? What if you signed a contract with their money and then refused to provide a copy?

Talk about the union all you want, but also talk about the CHH's and the County's administration and wasteful spending...

I still think there's a "moral imperative" to take care of our seniors at the very time they need it the most...

DarkStar..I agree. But how can we even assess if the money spent on the study was a waste or not when they refuse to review and implement any of the suggestions to save money and cut costs?

I would like to point out the simple fact that waste in one area doesn't justify waste in another.

Agree with the author of this letter and Captain.

The County Home provides care for our most vulnerable citizens. These are our family friends and neighbors who have worked their entire lives most paying taxes over a lifetime. What better use of our taxes if not to care for our fellow citizens?

It seems to me that our legislators have completely ignored the study. After paying so much for it to be conducted, I have seen very little emphasis on how to implement any of the changes recommended. Someone already had their mind made up. Which makes me very suspicious. And proves once again how they can WASTE our tax payer money. (gas well comes quickly to my mind ha ha)

We are not supporting just one airport we are supporting two money ports and the home!

The CCH is used by 200 residents on any given day. How many privileged few use the airport daily, and what's the annual revenue/cost ratio to run it?

commentor; I believe we can easily afford to keep supporting the CCH. All that needs to be done is have Mayville impose the cost-saving measures that are already identified in the CGR report, which the CSEA has allegedly agreed to not oppose. If these savings aren't enough, cut a couple of mil out of the sheriff's budget...he wastes waaaaay too much money on law enforcement as it is.

If a vote were taken to sell airports and keep Home I'm sure Home would win but bottom line they should all be sold. Given the closings in this area and those yet to come taxpayers cannot support any of these establishments.

We just need an efficient shuttle service to Erie or Buffalo. I do not like to rent cars or leave mine in Buffalo for extended periods of time especially in bad weather.

I agree w/Christopher. What PRIVATE companies/jobs have come here as the direct result of paying the huge costs associated with owning/maintaining the airport? If anything, it's being used by local CEOs to get out of town ASAP, taking jobs w/them. Don't be surprised when airport workers, as well as all other county workers, get a raise after the County Home is sold.

Speaking of wasting money, the SUNY incubator on Central Ave also quickly comes to mind.

I don't think there's a bigger waste of money than the Airport.
