DKexpat,
I don't disagree, but let's not overlook that it would work the opposite as well if it was allowed.
For example, if NYS took over the County's share of Medicaid payments (let assume it's 80% of County spending) NYS would have to raise taxes to do so and the County politicians would complain about that, while at the same time they wouldn't cut taxes anywhere near the 80% that they no longer were mandated to spend.
At the end of the day it's always the taxpayer who is getting screwed.

I love the "not MY fault" theory of taxes use by politicos.
1. Congress says, "No new taxes, but we'll just give your state less.
2. NYS says, "No new taxes, but we'll just give your county and school districts less.
3. Chau Cty says, "Guess what?"

"That being said, I thought republicans wanted no taxes and no government spending. "
Because that is what the left wants to to believe and too use your own words from another thread, "you sheep believe them."
"New York State has a history of driving business out and I don't expect that to change under a Cuomo administration."
His father perfected it, and put NYS into a grave, now the son arrives to shovel the dirt over us.

I don't see where government has the authority to dictate wages in the private sector. Minimum wage jobs are usually in the service sector, entry level positions that require very little in skills or education. New York State has a history of driving business out and I don't expect that to change under a Cuomo administration. The governor does not spend nearly enough effort to reduce the size and cost of goverment.

Although I can't say I disagree, our area should be getting more help from the state. That being said, I thought republicans wanted no taxes and no government spending.

So they will be moving retail outlets and fast food places out of state? Or is Edwards admitting that companies that provide full time jobs pay only minimum wage? Those companies should be paying more.
