Why we love Chautauqua CountyFebruary 2, 2013On Tuesday, Jan. 29 our committee (still without a name) met in the Village Hall in Fredonia. Mayor Keefe has been very hospitable and helpful to the committee.... Showing 4 of 4 comments

It is a good thing to have cheerleaders for the area. Thaank you for your work. However, in my opinion. there was no mention concerning jobs as a good reason to move here nor was there any talk from someone about the effort to create jobs.

If you listen to almost every local community booster, someone will mention tourist dollars. Everyone thinks their locales have places that will attract tourists if we could all just get the word out. In reality, tourism dollars is a desperation gambit for places with not much else going for them. You know, like New York, in particular upstate New York. Tourism MIGHT boost a FEW local businesses, but it won't replace the salaried jobs lost. Pollyanna comes to mind. But what the Heck, it keeps some people busy.

Alright, heres the deal. And you can use statistical data for this too...
*Some of the highest taxes in the country are here.
*Some of the highest rates of cancer and MS are here
*Lake Erie is polluted to the point where its only recommended to eat one fish a month because of all the mercury.
*There are no jobs here.
