Why they didn't close down tiny post offices like Dewittville, Maple Springs, Kabob and others some 50 years ago is beyond me.

Right on the money Chuck392. You can add sheridan, portland, stockton, ripley plus many, many more to the list.

if people are using the postal service less, there should be cuts accordingly. raising rates doesnt help ,just like the thruway.although, shipping a package is still a good deal. a few of the small offices cover a huge territory and others do not. alot doesnt make sense but you can be sure postal workers wont take pay or benefit cuts. the job is fairly cushy, no doubt. its one of those jobs people don't quit. they die or retire from it so you know its a good one. the rest of us should have it so well at our jobs.

Well, reader77, if it was such a terrific, cushy job, why didn't you become a postal worker years ago? They had openings all the time...apparently, it wasn't THAT cushy, eh?

Feb-08-13 9:38 AM with your misogyny and your racism, and now with unions, you surely are the personification of pathos -- nobody around to watch your back, to fight for you, never had a decent opportunity, no one to champion your cause...even all those years from the Dark Ages to the mid 1960's when white males had the absolute rule of the place, from economic to political to social rights and control.

I'd like to know why you have to pay for a PO Box and home delivery is free. Home delivery costs the postman/woman, the gas, maintenance and cost of the truck. With a box there is only the person putting the mail in the box.

reader77 -- my single mom raised me, my two other siblings while working as a postmaster for a post office in this county. Not sure it says about you.

Postmasters, btw are management and hence, nonunion.

@ricanthug: if you want people to take you seriously, start practicing proper grammar. "My moms" come on. No wonder why Latin leeches get a bad rap in DK. @dcronlg: how long did it take you to post that comment? I'm sure it took you some time to look those words up in your brittle dictionary. And was the world not better off in the '60's under male leadership? I don't see the female gender making anything better...
