We are blessed with fertile farm lands in our Chautauqua-Cattaraugus-Erie County area. Many of our citizens are directly involved in agriculture....

I hope reasonable readers will note the condescension (look it up Steiner) and emotional rant of Steiner. This is apparently 'hate' inspired against "libs" and the author has no idea what that means, or what the alternative is except that he prefers his own alienation from the rest of the public who can be civil in their disagreements. I sympathize with DarkStar's assessment, but don't think it only contributes to the name calling trend in these columns which adds nothing to a dialogue and only distances people. Steiner is an all too common example of someone moored in his own echo chamber, appealing to the choir of like minded anti-everything motivations (anti- everything he loathes whether or not he has any evidence). Steiner: what's your take on farmers selling their properties for condos, or for windmills? Shouldn't they be allowed? Who benefits from the industry that uses corn to power cars to such an extent that there is increasingly less corn to feed hungry people?

Steiner obviously has a bug up his back side. It would be useful if he would describe the context for his allegations. His recourse to insults about "libs" place him in whatever the opposite 'camp' is and thus we can ignore his comments as self serving opinion.
My comment on the article involves the characterization of "farmers." There are those in our county who live off the land--most notably the Amish who are Eco-friendly (for the most part vs.Big Business farmers. These often leach on the government supports we provide to them, complain about low demand, then capitalize (in the worst sense) by taking the benefits of both price supports and the resulting high prices. Then they have the audacity to defend themselves (legally) as though they are the farmers we see in this county. The GOP and Tea Party complain of Big Government, but the problem is unreasonable price supports for Big Agriculture. Small businesses have no such help or chance.

With Steinerdzzz, the truth is he's a self-loathing misogynist. Throughout his life, and even today, he has benefited immensely from liberal policies, programs, and from women. He refuses to admit it and of course, he attempts to demonize by ranting but he keeps on taking, taking and taking.
He just can't stand these truths.
The Super Bowl ad for Dodge trucks, using Paul Harvey's treatie on the American farmer, was proceless. To argue against people like those portryed in that ad as anything but the most American of American's isalmost impossible. However, what is possible is to argue that for the most part in thgis country, those people are myths, replaced by gigantic corporate farms that manipulate prices and*****government money intended for those portrayed in the ad. I group working on some of those small farms, and yes, thepicture of those people was pretty accurate. But they're fading fast, replaced by those worshipped by Steiner.
