Fredonia: It’s about control, not ‘savings’

February 27, 2013

Fredonia Trustee Joe Cerrie is defensively apprehensive regarding the village’s role in joining a regional north county water district....

So, the village, the trustees and the voting Fredonia citizens both want and believe in their self-determination in exercising their liberty with their own internal affairs....and the clueless church lady gaggle OBSERVER board, that bastion of conservative thought and principle, believes the Fredonia village in exercising one of the most sacred conservative principles is WRONG????

Typical, typical, typical small town-small minded church lady hypocrisy.

Totally agree with Dcron. He is spot on. I thought the right-wingers at the Observer were against bigger government? Now it sounds as if they are advocating for the village to become part of a much bigger machine and forfeit its control over what belongs to the village and its residents. By the way Dcron, I'm warming up to the your description "clueless church lady gaggle."

Why would anyone disagree with wanting proof that a savings would occur if Fredonia joins a Regional Water District. The first problem with this is Dunkirk in control and in charge. They have proven how well they run things. Looks like triplets...Steiner, Dcronig, small town....oops quadruplets machinehead.

Be careful about agreeing with Dcronlg, because one day you might disagree and he'll go into attack mode. The Observer has been VERY consistent about calls for consolidation. Consolidating the water departments of several different communities into one large district OUGHT to save everyone money. So what's wrong with that idea? Now, notice, I said, "OUGHT to", and that's the truth. I don't agree with a lot of what the Observer wants, but in this particular case the accusation of inconsistency is wrong. Fredonia's leadership has been leaving a lot to be desired of late, on many issues.

SmTownSmMind - The Church Lady reference is right out of Dana Carvey and his SNL Church Lady skit and the gaggle of geese comes from, well, watching the behavior of gaggles of Canadian geese waddling around, in a sort of mindless, skittish wanderings. Not to mention the honking...given their thought processes and judgments, the clueless church lady gaggle seemed to sum up the mental titans of the OBSERVER board.

Chris-ta-faa (from the Sopranos), I'm hurt. You make me sound like a rabid rottweiler...I'm not questioning the management abilities of the Fredonia board -- no, I won't go there. But, if the voters consented, they have a right to run their business as they see fit -- even if means they don't care about saving money -- its their tax dollars. Besides, whenever "Saving Money" is involved, tradeoffs have to occur -- and not all tradeoffs are worth it in the long run.

Reading this reminds me of how amazed I am that this voice of righteous rectitude still lives in the dismal overtaxed village administered by venal ham handed demons. Were it I living in such a bog of failed governance I would have long ago moved on. Why hasn't this sad commentator sought out the glorious paradise of say Dunkirk in all it's perfection?

Dunkirk? Why limit ones self to just Dunkirk, when Forestville and Silver Creek beckon!? And, let's face it, just about any place in Chautauqua County might qualify as "a glorious paradise" of perfection.

Maybe the observer should do a article on the tax bill in each community, and compare a home that would be the same value in each community, then we would see which is overtaxed.
