One other point; it's NOT the CCH's fault that a major tax hike is expected. On the contrary, the CGR states that the home is actually operating in the black (after you deduct the IGT funds and the county's minor contribution towards its annual budget).

I suspect Edwards' plan was to use the sale proceeds of CCH to help pay down the huge deficit that he & his admin created thru their fiscally irresponsible decisions. So instead of doing what is needed to REDUCE spending, they opt for short-term gimmicks by attempting to sell off county-owned assets as a means to maintain the status quo while avoiding a major tax hike.

This politically-advantageous strategy may keep voters happy, particularly county employees, but it does nothing meaningful to reduce the deficit.

I don't believe Edwards is an idiot at all. He's a terrible Co Exec, but he ain't stupid. Selling the CCH would've bailed Edwards & the CCLeg out of all the financially irresponsible decisions they've made together.

We all know a major tax hike is coming, and the selling of CCH would've likely prevented that. Keep in mind, selling would NOT have lowered our taxes one cent, but now Edwards can shift the blame of a tax hike onto the CCLeg for failing to approve the sale. Like I said, he ain't stupid.

It's time the CCLeg takes a close look at the excessive amt of money being spent on the CCSD (over $22M per yr). CCLeg must reduce the CCSD budget, and/or negotiate changes in ALL of the CBAs if they are serious about limiting tax hikes.

A few items: When one studies law one receives a JD. One doesn't receive a degree in politics (government)or leadership. BTW it shows too. When a community (read county here) has assets we treasure and care for them. YES it costs money name one county service that doesn't cost money-nothing is free. Even the idea that the county home costs us money is no suprise, it is a service we provide to the entire county not just north county. NOTE this. Our north county airport is next on The County Executive's list of assets to sell, God what is next. Seriously what is next. What causes a Republican to decide to sell our assets and state we are not in the business of.... blah, blah, balh. We are not in business WE are government, a collective of citizens gathered together (albeit a public benefit corportation) to serve each other. P.S. there is NOTHING is Mayville that os DEMOCRAT or REPUBLICAN it's ALL about POWER and CONTROL.

Transfer the money spent on the Dunkirk Airport to the Jamestown Airport. What savings is that? We have an airport an hour away. We do not need one in Chautauqua County!!!!

I'm telling you, it's a waste of space, and money. It seems Edwards realizes he can't make a quick buck off the Home

I agree with selling one or both of the airports.

Is a pattern emerging here - Edwards selling off assets every year to compensate for poor budget/monetary planning by the exec and legislature?

While I support selling both the airports I do need to point out to everyone saying "it's only for recreation" that the same could be said for the public docks, boat launches and beaches all over the county.

The reason to sell them has nothing to do with them being used for recreation, it's there isn't enough need for them to operate as a private commerical venture then they should be allowed to close as the taxpayer shouldn't be forced to pay for them.

Both airports have had money dumped into them for many, many years. For what, fly in breakfasts. They are recreational at most and the problem today is who would buy them with the economy the way it is especially in Western New York. I say get rid of them if possible.

I say why not sell it? Ive lived here 45 years and havent met a soul who's used that airport for anything but recreational flights. In fact Id go out on a limb and say if it werent for the yearly fly in breaksfast, the vast majority of the north county population wouldnt even know how to find the place. SELL the airport and the home and move on.
