Snowmobilers, sesos empanados and smoke-free living

March 9, 2013

First of all I want to thank all the snowmobilers in Chautauqua County for the impact they make for our county. These people have prepared 560 miles of trails in two weeks....

Nice article Margaret. After smoking for close to 45 years one day Feb a year ago I crumpled up a half a pack and walked away from it. No drugs,no pills, just quit. Never smoked in the house or car and got tired of freezing my butt off out in the garage. First 30 days were tough but I'm over it. The biggest benefit is my wife doesn't hold her breath anymore when we hug. Moral of my story,it can be done. Now I send the $50 a month to the wounded warrior project.

Ms. Margaret, thank-you for your undaunted efforts in trying to make this area rise again. I think the nameless organization that you have begun should somehow incorporate the name Lazarus in its title. Also want to thank-you for your info on the health benefits of putting cigarettes out permanently. Your love and concern of and for this area and its people is really commendable. Thank-you for all you do...and say.

Tom, seriously? Skiers and snowmobiles use the same trails? I'd be more than a little afraid of using them for either use if that is the case. I'd hate to be enjoying a slow cross country experience and then have one or more machines come basting by at speed. And I'd be afraid to open the throttle for fear of hitting someone on the trail on skis. There is enough land out there for the powered machines to get to where the skiers don't normally go, isn't there? Both are fun activities but mixing them on the same trails seems like a recipe for disaster.

In this , to snowmobile users and their friends. Im m supportive: Winter sports is 'where it's at' in WNY. I would only ask them to respect the pleasures of skiers and other who enjoy the same trails (at least Rails to Trails). We seek quiet spirituality and communion with nature. The machines make this right almost impossible when we need to share the same trails I live for the winter in Fnland, where I've retired (for that reason) and , where the snowmobile trails are celestially separTE from the ski trails (which, btw, both systems, are maintained by the government: thus, taxes go to maintaining both! There are some many trails for snowmobilers that compared to the relative pacity of skiing rails, I would hope that those enamored of motorized enjoyment of winter doesn't detract from those who enjoy a more personal and physical experience. WNY is great and we need to share it; but motors, and obliterating hard made cross-country ski trails is not sharing. It is dominating.
