"Cornell and Horrigan are in agreement that there is often more to any facility than the stars may suggest." Lori Cornell is a HYPOCRITE!!! She chastised Avi Rothner's Homes for having low star ratings. Now she says there is more to it than a star rating. She should be thrown off the Legislative Board!!! A perfectly good sale that would have helped taxpayers was lost!!! As for the manipulation of the ratings it must be true because there is no way that Absolute Dunkirk is a five star Home!!! It's a ZERO star Home. All of the Legislators voting NO on the sale should be dumped. Anything they say to justify their stupidity only makes them look even dumber!!!!

"The independent analysis of CCH to date - including the '08 Nazzaro report, the '11 Harmony report and the more recent CGR report - have all pointed to gross inefficiencies..."

That's 5 years of defiantly ignoring cost-saving recommendations. Was it b/c Edwards decided back in '08 to sell? I'm sure some ppl will blame the CSEA instead of who is really at fault; Edwards, CCH Admin Hellwig and the CCLeg.

Did things backfire? Are private payers starting to go elsewhere? Edwards chose to publicly emphasize the poor ratings in an attempt to gain public support, and convince the CCLeg to sell. The vote failed, and now they must explain WHY they've allowed it to be run so poorly all these yrs.

A few points...

A County Home accepts many residents that private homes refuse. This is clear in another report from CGR that clearly states that about 25% of the residents served by a county home...would not be served if the home went private.

Secondly, did anyone else catch..the STAFF got 4 stars. Say what you may about the union, they sure seem to be doing an excellent job caring for our most vulnerable residents.

Thirdly, I still do not understand why in 2011 the County spent more than $446,000 drilling the gas well...only for it to sit there idle..and the Home be put on the market for sale the following year. Can anyone explain that to me? Did they really think it might help sell the HOME? If so, why were they not honest with us..the taxpayers who had to pay for this..on the real reason for drilling it. To me..I am outraged that my tax dollars were spent on a useless well. And then I am to trust them on other financial issues regarding this HOME?

And Judeye, the average county home worker is paid far more then the average non-county home worker. The star rating should be far higher for the county home based on wages and professionalism, YET IT IS NOT!

It time for Lori Cornell to start crying again....

If Greg Edwards gets re-elected Lori wont be the only one crying. She will be in good company. What I found most amusing was Edwards statement that he supports quality service. That is really funny. Maybe he can provide an example?

Judeye enough with the well we know. As for putting all the blame on Edwards his biggest fault is to let Tim continue to manage the home. Everyone is quick to blame Edwards and not Tim. We have not heard from Tim saying he has advised Edwards of cost saving measures. Quite the opposite he has caused extra expense. As for the Home accepting everyone who applies......NOT TRUE. They have turned away people for not being able to profit from them. Yes true. As for complaining about the services rendered I don't believe that was ever an issue. Bottom line they don't want to sell because the free loaders don't want to lose their ride. As for the Legislators I don't know what their angle is.

Judeye-I suggest you go to the CMS site and read a bit before you start your spin. Some of us can read believe it or not! THE STAFF DID NOT GET RATED JUDEYE,"STAFFING" WAS RATED!!!!! That means the amount of time devoted to each individual resident. BIG difference!

judeye I agree with you on the well issue the whole reasoning for it and why its not being utilized should be answered, and not in one sentence. commentor you are an ahole, "freeloaders" really I don't think you would make it ten minutes doing their job. all this talk you do it would be ironic if you are in need of there help someday.

popawheelie...thanks..I am glad that someone else in our county is not going to just let "$446,000+" dollars GO.

There needs to be some accounting for why this was that expense..and why it was never connected if the intent (which I have in writing) was to save money.

Good Grief.****plain and want to sell the home when we are in the words of the CGR report "misled" about the cost of operation..and at the same time close your eyes to a very real bill for a well that sits there useless.

This thing has taken on a life of its own.

When do we start a serious discussion on reducing the size and cost of government here in Chautauqua County? This is all smoke and mirrors.

commentor, where's your proof with the statement that the Home has turned people away because they would not profit them? Seriously, I want to meet with you so you can show me and not just tell me that this is true. i for one, should you agree to meet with me can actually show you proof that your statement is wrong. If anyone has been turned away its because we could not perform the services they needed....not for lack of payment. would you care to meet with me so I can show you just exactly how the home is run and the residents that live there?

Put the blame on who deserves the blame..King Greg..He has sabotaged and undermined the Home since His Kingship started..Even hiring a relation to work the numbers..Any decisions at the Home go thru the King..

Once a year the regulators come in and do inspections of all Nursing facilities..They come in unannounced..They follow a specific route..Guess who is hit first?..The County Home..By the time the regulators are done with the Home word is already out to the rest of the facilities giving them time to cover up and pretend to be doing a great job..Also,most of the deficiencies at the Home were minor, and not related to Quality of care..Things like a lid not being on a fruit cup or a trash can not being where a regulator thinks it should be..Unfortunately these minor things are figured into the rating system..Reporter Liz,is this all the news you can muster up??..Start doing some articles on King Greg..That should keep you busy for years!!..

I don't think the fears of poor care if the HOME was sold to the Rothner's may be valid....It could not go anylower then it already is according to this report.
