This is devastating for the village. I have to wonder if any effort is being made to sell the business to a new owner and is the county IDA actively involved in seeking a new owner.

It will be terrible for these folks; given the horrible job market in all of WNY, there will be little, if any, opportunity to find similar paying work, if any work at all.

And to help their families and themselves, they will have to use social safety nets: unemployment, food stamps, medicaid, etc, etc. Its a blow to the pride but the alternatives are much worse.

No, that's wrong. What will be worse is this paper, and many of its readers will categorize these proud folks as slackers, as moochers, as the "47%" who need to get off the dole, get off their duffs and go find work -- because we spend too much on folks like them and there are soooooo many open jobs to fill...which there aren't, but who cares when you're a GOP/RW taxpayer, eh?

I would be very surprised, no shocked if the IDA is involved. This has been in the works between Con Agra and Ralcorp for a while. This county is becoming a ghost town. Why are we paying so much in taxes, there is no tax base left. Where has the IDA been for the last 10 years?

Unless you have a trust fund, every one of us, every one, is one paycheck away from incredible, terrible economic hardship like these Petri folks...

But who cares? -- right, Clueless OBSERVER board? Right, Tom Reed? Right, Greg Edwards? Right, conservatives? Right, Paul Ryan? Who cares? They're soon going to be moochers, sucking dry our tax dollars, living off of others' hard work, living the good life on entitlements...

All you GOP/conservatives are priceless wonders of hubris.

Well don't blame Con-Agra. They have shareholders (many of whom may be retirees) counting on dividends. The business climate in this state is tough. Taxes and regulations, etc. A business has to do what's needed to be more efficient. Look around and see the pattern repeated. Sad but true.

The layoffs can't start soon enough for me. An unemployed America is a better America. Thank you.

Don't blame ConAgra, why not. Its top share holder is a 38 year old born with a spoon in his mouth telling workers at Carriage House he doesn't need them and will shut them down in a heart beat. I put all the blame on their greed. Unfortunately, there is nothing the little guy can do against these selfish greedy people. Good luck to those loosing their jobs. My husband and I both lost very good paying jobs to corporate greed. I would like to know where George Barello, Greg Edwards and Bill Daily have been. Where they oblivious to what was going on in the county. Oh,forgive me they are to busy with their own agendas to worry about the little guy just trying to put food on the table. Again, good luck to everyone at Petris and hold on Silver Creek. It is a ghost town and yet highest taxes in the county.
