Attend meetings — that’s what Boards for profit and non-profit organizations, and all governmentals do. They attend meetings, and could be divided into two groups — those who attend full-time and those who attend part-time.

The full time meeting goers would get paid, but the part time goers, called volunteers wouldn’t get paid. That way the real volunteers who have given their time freely without pay would be recognized for their value and commitment.

Let's get this straight...it was the Mayor and Council EXCEPT Councilwoman Szukala and Councilwoman-at-Large Kiyak.

Santora, twist this issue any way that pleases you but the fact is with ALL the economic problems this city faces & a obscene $21+ budget add to it a pledge toe the line and reduce spending a mayor & council who curry favors by not doing the right thing and stand by the budget that they collectively passed is a total lack of respect to this city's taxpayer

People have volunteering as firemen for many years leaving their homes and families under all kinds of conditions to run into the face of danger for no pay at all but these people can't even volunteer to sit on a board without pay "SEND THEM PACKING"

Christopher is correct, the only way they should get any sort of payment if it was to cover travel expenses if they went out of the area on business for the board.

But what the heck it's only money, and does anyone really expect Dunkirk to be responsibly when spending tax dollars? I mean they never have been, so why should they start now?

Santora. if you check the "APROVED" budget for 2013 the housing commission to receive $2760 dollars with the approval of paying volunteer board members that's another $2760 dollars, do the math as for what they deserve, please, what they should be is ashamed, as the council members who voted to approve this resolution and do not comprehend the meaning of the word "VOLUNTEER"

@LitlDaddy1951@yahoo****--- Greed? this is funny! Mayor and council voting salary increases a couple of years ago for themselves and CDBG mis-appropriations are examples of greed.Huge amounts of money for the Veterans monuments w/o approval or approval of bidding is not greed? Apparently these guys are just getting back what has been coming their way for years so I wouldn't exactly call it greed.@rumblefish as I read your comment, not sure where you feel that DHA budget has "doubled." Must be I'm the only one reading the article! They are just getting back what was originally cut!

Volunteer: a person who freely offers to take part in an enterprise or undertake a task.

Volunteer: a person who works for an organization without being paid.

Unvolunteer: DHA member.

What an incredible disappointment. I agree with Christopher, Stephanie, & Stacy...if they are unwilling to VOLUNTEER without getting paid then they need to find new members.

No volunteer board should be paid. I could see it if it involved travel, but obviously that's not an issue. Somebody should have pulled out a Dictionary, read off the definition of volunteer, and then voted no. Next question, how many other volunteer boards in the city are paid, and how much?

what was omitted from this story was a need to replace broken parking meters in the downtown area, we guess that back scratching is more important than revenue producers $2760 would have helped, this is another example of where this administration's priorities are...
