Guns involved in ‘terrible crimes’

April 29, 2013

Editor, OBSERVER: First let me state that I am not against gun owners — I own a couple of guns for hunting purposes myself. I have many friends and relatives that own all types of guns....

Of course guns were involved; they’re a weapon. You make an assumption they were armed when planning the bombs; they may have and they may not have been so what’s your point?

Guns weren’t involved on 9/11; box cutters were. Tim McVeigh used fertilizer to blow up the Murrah Building in OK City. Ironically, he had a loaded 9mm pistol next to him when he was pulled over by the cop for a traffic infraction, leading to his arrest, and never used the weapon.

The author never says what he wants of gun owners. Is it universal registration or possibly confiscation except for hunting guns?

Very poorly written letter. Rambled and never made a real point.

I believe that the officer was shot with his own stolen gun.

He was shot through the back window, making it a BIT difficult to have had his gun stolen first.

I'm more than a bit disappointed in Mikedavis and 1Laona especially, and a few others for their almost total lack of concern on this letter!! It's not a true "Posse" gentlemen, unless you ALL show up! LOL!

"Guns weren't used in..." is the dumbest argument I keep hearing. The assumption that in three or four cases they weren't used, so therefore, they are never used to commit crimes is outlandish! They were used in the Arizona Gabby Giffords shooting, and lives were saved because the shooter had to stop to replace a clip that didn't have enough bullets,. That's all the evidence necessary that smaller clips save lives.

Really Truthteller? Let's get a little closer to home. Two people were murdered over in the Town of Carroll almost two weeks ago. Allegedly by FOUR (4) intruders. If the victim had been legally armed (and unfortunatly he wasn't) under the Cuomo SAFE Act, (that you seem to think is so good), he would have had only seven rounds in the magazine, meaning he would have had to be accurate with most every shot. Ten isn't great, but in a situation like that, it's better than seven. I just can't even begin to understand why some people are so willing to give up their right to be able to defend themselves against evil people

There is no need to answer this letter Paul. It's both sides of the argument. Just exactly how does one debate it? I don't really care to repeat myself. The liberals don't want people to have guns. Fine, don't have one. But stop telling me what I can or can't have because you have your panties in a bunch. I have a Constitutional right to what I want. I want abortions (murders) stopped but that's a liberal "choice" that no one DARES step on. You people are all a joke and the country is going to He!! in a hand basket because of the attitudes you keep teaching (indoctrinating?) to the children. Keep thinking a hug and a discussion will stop a mad man. Maybe you can tell him you forgive him before he stabs, shoots or beats you to death while you are waiting for your chance to talk about his feelings.

"The liberals don't want people to have guns." I'm a liberal and I'm fine with guns, enjoy sport shooting, as a matter of fact. But I see how backward the U.S. is and how insanity prevents gun CONTROL, not elimination. I don't know one single person who wants to take away guns. Name ONE liberal politician who supports your ridiculous claim.

Kristopher--Why don't you just get a security system? If your gun and ammo are under separate lock and key, as ALL "I own guns and I have them securely locked up away from my ammunition and I resent anyone who tries to take them from me because I'm responsible" gun nuts say, then you won't beat an intruder who has surprised you. If you're lying, then your gun is at the ready beside you, and that's when children get shot and crimes of passion happen. "Responsible" gun ownership and intruder prevention can't co-exist. It's impossible.

No, American. She wants to limit clip sizes, she supports background checks, she wants legislation that regulates sales. She has NEVER said "I don't want people to have guns." Just admit it--your bloated claim is just plain wrong.

So who here thinks you can unlock your gun cabinet, unlock your separately-stored ammo, load the gun, and shoot an intruder who has the advantage of surprise?

You're right, Mike, the country IS going to*****in a handbasket. You can tell because the U.S. lags way behind in every quality of life respect. And it's no coincidence that people are happier in liberal countries. That's not emotion and hot air, as you're fond of. That's data. Evidence. And the failure of so many Americans to respect what is obvious right in front of them is why we are so far behind. By the way, it's a Constitutional right to criticize your country.

I have an unloaded shotgun, unlocked by the bed, shells in the nightstand, unlocked. When my kids were smaller, I didn't do this, but they have grown to be young adults who respect firearms as they have been taught. Handguns are kept under lock & key when not attached to my belt though. There is no requirement to secure firearms, unless you live with somebody who should not have access, even under unSAFE.

Feinstein definitely wants to ban all guns, and she is not alone. Biden, regarding assault weapon ban & background checks, stated "this is just the beginning"

Banning guns addresses a fundamental right of Americans to feel safe....Dianne Feinstein, quoted by the Associated Press, 11/18/1993

Yes truth I see the happiness on the evening news. Riots and mayhem in just about half the European countries because their liberal "give me" attitude has driven their respective countries to banruptcy. Give it a couple of years, your man in the Oval office is working overtime to get the U.S. to that point. And yes it is a Constitutional right to bad mouth the country, the flag, or the military. Just don't bad mouth a minority, a gay, or an abortion. Because that is just un-American in the liberal vernacular.
