Our stories are our history

May 25, 2013

I’ve got an idea. If you will help me, we can preserve the histories of our communities. After all, history is just an accumulation of stories. We can actually get all our children to like history....

My father made me tapes shortly before he passed. I cannot tell you how valuable they are to me. I learned much of the fears he faced as a young soldier sent to France during WWII. He told the story of my grandparents meeting on a train coming home from work. He went on and on about growing up during the depression, going to War (told me to work always for peace as war is hell), raising a family, and enjoying life. He even played his harmonica for me!

Oh Margaret I think a community coming together and sharing their stories of this region would be outstanding!!! Will try to stop over with some stories from our family..or my husband's family who grew up in this region. Thank You...and once again I say..you have a very smart son!
