At least 620,000 died from combat, accident, starvation, and disease. Some deaths were from lesser known battles. Some were from more well-known ones such as Gettysburg and Antietam....

Mary, good article.The civil War was the costliest and bloodiest conflict in US history. You have to wonder why america did that and especially the southerners. Slaves had been bought out by the Brits, no war. Only in America was such a bloody battle fought.
