“...Liberals will be offended that I mentioned the word God.”

Is that like saying Conservatives would be offended if you’d mentioned evolution?

I actually agree with everything Dick Makuch wrote. Giving illegals a driver's license, welfare, food stamps and financial aid for college is an outrage. Get in line. Get your citizenship. Stop being a drain on this country. Pay your own way!!

Thanks Mr. Makuch, your points were right on the money. The Lefty's will be here shortly to take us all to a re-eduction camp because it's really all for the good of the "pee-pull".We'll all be MUCH happier then and SAFER too, because the only ones with guns will be the "guardians of freedom".

1Laona, do you have an intelligent thought about anything in the entire world other than GD GUNS!!? I don't often agree with Mr. Makuch, but I do agree with about 85% of this one. I think most American's would. But again, I have to ask, what in the heck does it have to do with GUNS!?

What did our fore fathers have to do to come to America? Go to Ellis Island and pass a physical. No sponsor needed. My great grandmother never learned English, and the same was true for many immigrants. Our nuns had Polish accents, and they were born here. Who had to jump through hoops? Non Europeans. The first naturalization law in the United States was the Naturalization Act of 1790, which restricted naturalization to "free white persons." In 1870, the law was broadened to allow African Americans to be naturalized. Asian immigrants were excluded from naturalization but not from living in the United States. There were also significant restrictions on some Asians at the state level; in California, for example, non-citizen Asians were not allowed to own land.Congress passed the Chinese Exclusion Act in 1882 which specifically limited further Chinese immigration. So your racist feelings have an origin in our history.

Marcia, I think the point is that when our grandparents came here, they did not receive welfare, and in fact had to sign a document that they wouldn't, had to have a sponsor, and certainly did not have government employees in each and every office specifically hired because they spoke their language. My aunt translated for her parents when they bought their house. The same with most of the Polish people I grew up with, nobody helped them or made it easy. And, this is no small deal, previous immigrants all strived to assimilate. That is not the case now. If a country loses it's common language, is it a country anymore? I am not anti-immigrant, but do not support giving illegal immigrants 5 cents of help, education or medical assistance. Illegals are a huge drain on our money and resources. I wouldn't hire one Spanish speaking employee anywhere for anything other than an Embassy official.

Um...when a gazillion people have been "swimming the river and climbing the fence" for decades and decades, I don't think you can assign culpability to either Repubs or Dems, Conseravtives or Liberals.

What I object to is rewarding them with public services and citizenship when there's "a line out the door" of people trying to enter the US legally.

1Laona, nobody took more rights away than those signed over under the Homeland Security Act, and those weren't LIBERALS sponsoring that bill, although many chickensh_t Democrats voted for it to avoid looking weak on terrorism. It was a CONSERVATIVE Supreme Court that decided Corporations are "people" relative to the 1st Amendment, creating a flood of corporate money influencing elections. It was that same Conservative Supreme Court that allowed for Eminent Domain to be used to tear down decent neighborhoods to allow developers to build higher priced homes to increase the tax base. Shall I go on? And let's not forget the War in Iraq, the most illegal war, based on the Constitution, of any we've ever been in. Open your eyes.

guns in the morning, guns in the evening, guns at no Christopher that's not all I'm concerned about.Charities are Wounded Warriors and probably 5-6 Charity Bike Runs a year, plus the chicken dinners, auctions and have just given cash to those in need(forgot the red bucket for the Salvation Army)and the USO.There's alot to be concerned about and you,Judeye,Marcia and your ilk are responsible for much of it.I hope it can be turned around so you won't see the fruits of your labor.

Dkexpat, you're absolutely correct. This isn't a Democrat / Republican thing as it has been doing on for decades with both parties in control GW Bush supported Illegal Immigrants, saying, "they're doing the jobs Americans won't do".

Unless you are a Native American...YOU are an immigrant, or come from immigrant family history.

Most of those who speak Spanish in our area come from Puerto Rico..which is a TERRITORY of the USA. "All territory under the control of the federal government is considered part of the "United States" for purposes of law..... "The inhabitants of the ceded territory . . . shall be admitted to the enjoyment of all the rights, advantages, and immunities of citizens of the United States;"

"The official languages of the executive branch of government of Puerto Rico are Spanish and English, with Spanish being the primary language."

Just might explain why SOME agencies (not all governmental agencies have translators) have translators for Spanish speakers.

“...Liberals will be offended that I mentioned the word God.”

and some of us liberals are guided by our faith..which directs us to advocate for the less fortunate, the needy, the imprisoned, and the poor.

Some of us take that very seriously.

Judeye, As always you and the rest of the liberals are confusing illegal with legal immigration. My ancestors arrived to this country with very little. One thing they did have was PRIDE. They didn't arrive with their hand outstretched looking for welfare, a driver's license, free tuition, food stamps, free housing.....and on and on it goes. Don't you agree?

Nothing in America will ever be fixed 1Laona as long as so many people, people just like you, assign ALL of the blame to only a portion of the responsible parties. And other than the Military, it doesn't look like you care about much, and the bigger problems in this country do not involve the Military other than their overall excessive spending.

JUDEYE - I agree that we should feed the sheep bt DO WE HAVE TO FEED THE SWINE? We have developed a culture of dependency on government where taxpayers will take care of you from cradle to grave. It has the potential to destroy our way of life.

OK:got it,spending to much on wounded warriors,VA hospitals(darn agent orange..they never proved that caused any problems did they?)outreach programs, housing, job training,USO?-why would their spirits need lifting-they've got it made(never home to do the "honey-do list.I guess you're right, why help the military.I can use that money to help tear down that fence on the southern border.

PhilJulian...would you tell me how many people in our County are on public assistance? How many receive CASH benefits? What percentage of our population on receiving welfare?

Those that receive food stamps or medicaid, many of them ARE WORKING FULL TIME. We, the taxpayers, seem to be supplementing some of the large companies who pay their employees so low wages and little to no benefits so that they are forced to get food stamps and other help. Meanwhile the ceos of these companies are making HUGE profits.

Now, now 1Laona, I never even implied thaqt Veterans don't deserve nor need help. I said, other than Veteran's issues you have no opinion nor concern about anything in this country other than your effin guns, and that statement I'll stand by. How about charity for Cancer, people who've lost homes to fires or floods, that sort of thing? I give money all the time, and NEVER to large organizations that pay out many times less than $.50 cents on the dollar. So, should we have a contest here? You never read anything completely through, and change what you say every other post. Nothing left to say to you. We don't agree on much, never will.

What your good Christian forefathers brought with them as immigrants was death … "Old World" diseases had a devastating impact on Native American populations because they had no natural immunity. The smallpox epidemics are believed to have resulted in the largest death tolls among Native Americans, surpassing any wars and far exceeding the mortality from the Black Death. It is estimated that upwards of 80–95 percent of the Native American population died in these epidemics within the first 100–150 years following 1492; the most affected regions in the Americas lost 100% of their population. Then your holy-then-thou ancestors spent the next 300 years killing off the Native Americans, stealing their land and making them second-class citizens. Tis a shame the new immigrants can’t provide racial bigots like the author some of the same.
