agree with Christopher..that would be like sending a Dunkirk officer to cover a domestic in say Clymer, by himself, when his closest backup was 15 minutes away.

How about the fact that if the Sheriff provided the same level of policing for Dunkirk that Dunkirk does, based on what they're charging Hanover, I'd bet the Sheriff would be charging Dunkirk as much or more with less policing, and a LOT less knowledge of the locale. Some things just don't translate that well. Now, Dunkirk and Fredonia police departments merging, different story, but the Sheriff? Ridiculous in my opinion.

"Why are all the other towns, villages and cities not doing the same?"

Have you been sleeping? If memory serves me, we have some 15 or so less police departments than we had back in the 60's. These were dissolved years ago. Did they save taxpayers much money when they dissolved? I'm sure there was some savings, but I'm betting most communities didn't see taxes go down at the time - maybe they leveled a bit for a while, but then you've got a "new normal" all over again. And most didn't contract with the county long term - those people just lost services.

I Dunkirk spends $3.2 million or $265 per resident for police protection, why is the city not considering a contract for a county takeover of law enforcement? Why are all the other towns, villages and cities not doing the same?
