Nothing in economy a ‘given’

August 19, 2013

Recently, I have written about John Locke, then Adam Smith. Today, I focus on Friedrich Hayek. If any 20th-century economist was an up-to-date man, it was Friedrich Hayek....

Hey Doc, the libs will not believe you ! They believe the govt is the inventor of everything. Proof ? their famous you did not build that statement. The libs want a national policy of CO2. The libs simply want total control over our lives. even cronig, the numbers man believes in extension cords and you did not build that.He forgets that the extension cord answer was only possible via teslas AC system. Now we can make high voltage DC, but, unfortunately all the motors are tesla invention. The AC motor is everywhere.Poor ignorant cronig. But, of course, the libs say tesla did not do that. The vaunted public employee did.Private minds gave us petrochem, radio and electricity. the govt had to intervene , especially in the radio part during WW1. Marconi tried to abscond with teslas work.a lomng court case ensued over work done by private minds. aint liberals and socialists dumb doc ?

The writer argues that a pre-WW II economist is somehow valid in today's global political economy. When Hayek was around the British Pound was the de facto global currency, there were tariffs and trading barriers were running amok, there were no computers, no internet, no SEC...

...and economics and markets have progressed far beyond since Hayek's time, and even Friedman's theories/practices are now quaint as a great aunt's doilies...

...what the learned doctor fails to discuss is that continually changing tax policy, esp towards debt (bonds), usually has more impact on market and investment behavior than the so-called invisible hand...

hey unlearned crumbug. Yo forgot minds over computers. You say so much flowery language and miss the real issues. All the things we have originated from some ones mind. This someone was a private invetor. Hey crumbug, the integrated circuit invented over 50 years ago. The AC system is at the heart of everything and it was invented over a hundred years ago.both have spread around the world and are essential to life as we know it. Thats why the libs want green energy. it does not work and comuters dont like interupted power. Are you learning challenged or what ? Cronig, read the professors by david horowitz. The book provides a great description of liberal talk. Talk like you, flowery thetoric, short on facts, just like you ! I would feel proud cronig.

hey cronig, the auto too was made a long time ago. Organic chemistry polished up for ww2. everything we have was made a long time ago. The elctrical system sprang from twitching frog legs and compasses. This took several hundred years. My steinertrons are the most recent invention, again all done by private minds, not the govt. you dont seem to know anything cronig. keep posting. hows those govt programs doing ?

hey learned cronig, you forgot too the guy who discovered saudi oil. A guy named Holmes. There is a statue in Rijad in his honor. Another private guy who made the arabs very rich. the established belief was there was no recoverable oil in arabia. you would be saying things like doilies, church lady gaggle etc. such learned comments cronig ! Another unexpected development was fracking, so hated by the libs like you cuz it works. The saudis dont like it . It threaten their heat monopoly. Of course you say green energy is 24/ 7 and can replace oil.of course, oil has no bearing on life eh learned cronig ? Must be that new math you seem to know. Lets hear your rhetoric cronig, uncle fester, christuufuu, church lady gaggle, steineeerdz and more from the learned mind of cronig.

Some things are a given. A new study finds that a New York mother of two is eligible for $38,004 in welfare benefits--a sum more than the annual salary of a New York entry-level school teacher.

The study, conducted by the CATO Institute, says in many states welfare pays better than work. Topping the list of wage-equivalent benefits for a mother and two children was Hawaii at $60,590. Idaho came in last with $11,150.

The study found that 33 states and the District of Columbia offer welfare benefits that pay recipients more than an $8-an-hour job would. Twelve states and the District of Columbia offer welfare packages that pay better than a $15-an-hour job does.

"There is no evidence that people on welfare are lazy," writes CATO senior fellow Michael Tanner. "But they're also not stupid. If you pay them more not to work than they can earn by working, many will choose not to work."

con't. "In total, the U.S. federal government now has 126 low-income programs. A full 72 of those welfare programs offer individuals cash or in-kind benefits.

Since President Lyndon Baines Johnson declared "war on poverty," U.S. taxpayers have spent over $15 trillion on anti-poverty programs--a total nearly equal to America's national debt."

Interesting the total spent on welfare and the total of the national debt. Let's keep spending ourselves to prosperity libs...it's working great so far.

Mike, the learned libs like cronig would disagree with you ! . we do indeed spend our way into prosperity ! just like detroit ! . As you point out, the libs gave us the disintegrated family, exploding rise in out of wedlock births, dysfunctional kids from that, the war on fathers, etc . All viewed as a great success story as it keeps the votes democratic and demonizes the actual wealth creators as exploiters.learned liberals ?

Steiner not one thing you said is relevant to this article. I suppose there are those who think that a so called fee market economy is better, but that is true only for those at the top of the system. Perhaps we need to go back to reading Dickens to see the effects of that type of system. As long as those on power operate under the "I've got mine, you don't matter" view so prevalent then and now the system fails. America was at its strongest post WW2 when manufacturing was expanding, unions were strong and the middle class was growing.

marcia, you must be confused. everything i have said is relevant.Inventions upset the apple cart. They upset the people like the libs who believe the govt does everything. My saudi example is a good one. Noone believed that there was commercial oil in arabia back in the 30's. Holmes proved them wrong. Then the naysayers said we would run out of natural gas, fracking proved them wrong and greatly upset the saudis, who sell liquid heat. What part aint relevant? Do you actually understand any history or science ? related to judeye and cronig ? Niagara Falls would have been compressed air , no electricity if not for tesla. Fortunes made off that invention. govt had nothing to do with any of this. Libs were too stupid, to be blunt.Oil, another example, std oil saved the whale, made fortunses, again. woodrow wilson, ever the govt believer thought the world would run out of oil. What is thought given is obsoleted by smart guys.

marcia, the free market gave us electricity and radio. ever turn a crank or pump water by hand ? tesla lifted that burden of people. he made possible the extension cord answer cronig likes. The high voltage lines you see everywhere, including the mideast. All from the great satan. The first generators at the falls had tesla on the name plate. Tesla became rich and you have a problem with that ? Invent a new source of power ? I bet you cant do that. Petrol gave us the vast chemical world we take for granted. take that away and we starve. explosives, another non given. As soon as nitrates and ammonia from air became practical, fertilizer and bombs were common place. Chilean nitrate mines kaput on the spot. Thanks to fritz haber. his wife suicided, got confused like you marcia. you dont know much marcia.

bell labs and schockley invented transitor. tubes kaput, another non given. All in the 50's. Chips a little later. Who would have guessed what that revolution would bring ? Another non given. the ability to spy on every call, e-mail etc. Marcia, do you think this is relevant ? if not you are a dummy.Give us your learned opinion here marcia. The transistor radio revolutionized radio. Portable, like the walkman a little later.japan was the economic leader in the 80's.It was said they would overtake america . Apple sunk them. Who would have thought that ? where did japan get solid state tech ? from america, they sold it cheap to japanese after ww2. Look what happened since ww2. I do not remember any text book in school predicting this. this aint relevant ? Are you mentally ill ? or just a liberal?

this is especially for marcia, steiner , a boomer is born, gets a private and then public education, my parents could not afford both , the libs were greedy. steiner gets a job in the chemical industry. amazed that it was only a page and a half in his organic textbook, yet all the products made ! Steiner then cracks the ancient code in the bible and other sacred books. Builds steinertrons. Ups the gas mileage by 25 % for a penny a gallon. A huge non given if ever there was one. fire is thought to be unchangeable and steiner proves them wrong. No chemicals, pure energy off the steinetrons.this aint relevant ? steiner genuflects in front of pictures of the greatest scientists of all time. tesla, alvarez, bohr, rutherford, etc they showed him how to think. Libs dont know how to think. Now tell me how this is not relevant oh unlearned marcia. The steinertrons prove the ancient texts true and sink darwin on the spot. A non given for sure.prove me wrong here oh great marcia !

Mike Davis, unregulated capitalism does not work. We discover that in the 1890s the 1920s and now. many humans are so greedy they do not care about their fellow man at all, I guess you would call them anti Christian since they are the opposite of what Christ preached. our entire economy did so much better in the 50', 60s and 70s when unions were strong and taxes were higher. Everyone did better not just the top 1%. Then Reagan came and America has been in a decline ev er since.

Yeah Marcia let's blame Reagan. Not the three generations, now going on four, that have been raised to whine and hold their hand out for more free stuff because their great-great-great-great grandparents were sold by the chief of their tribe. Stop with the white guilt and start holding all people accountable for their decisions. Don't want to apply yourself in school? Dig a ditch for your living. But no...you want to make them feel good about being a lazy loser. So let's hand them free housing, meals, a little spending money, and whatever else soothes your moronic self loathing. I said it before and I will say it until it finally sinks into your (I'm sure somewhere in there is at least a small one) brain. A hand UP always, a hand OUT very rarely. Now tell me what an a.s.s. I am for wanting to make people responsible for themselves you liberal twit.

marcia just cannot think. her reply is unregulated capitalism does not work. the great depression would be a democratic success then as everyone got poorer.Unregulated capitalism gave us std oil, radio, electricity, etc. Do you actually know anything ? The reagan years were boom years. Socialism works ? ever hear of the berlin wall ? Face it marcia,my numerous factual historic posts have no meaning to you. You cant think any more.where did the socialists get their ideas from, the capitalistic west. from the jet to nuclear power, the do gooders simply gave them the technology. golly how did ya miss that ?

hey cruisin, you missed some history too ! the progressives had a lot of science to advance their agenda of breeding and sterilizations. Just read any history of the movement. even nazi germany was lionized as the supreme example of this and german efficiency you know, till the holocaust became known. Then the learned libs lionized the soviet union ! just like now, it was a workers paraduse. thats why they had to build the berlin wall, to keep people like the libe, oswald and Ohare out. Those dumb libs, ever wrong, but as chrisptoher says its not their fault. its someone elses, golly you libs are learning disabled.

Tell us how we got all the science stuff we got with no govt help cuz thats how it went. cruisin, smokin safe, hmm. thats because the libs control the schools, but its not their fault, as christopher says. They teach us dumb darwinism. Claims the cell is the unit of life, it aint. the libs just make us dumber and dumber. Marcia wants it. This in spite of evidence to the contrary, the city folk vote democratic for 50 years and sink their kind. marcia would call that a success.Marcia read history and see whwere socialism has failed. Socialism is the what the libs are all about. Marcia celebrates failure.

Mike Davis, why do you conservatives always have to make personal attacks? and why did you bring up white guilt, I never mentioned race at all. Are you feeling guilty of something? Reagan's deregulation and union busting started the decline of the middle class. That's called an historical perspective.
