Chuck - the last rolling blackout was in 2003, and it left over 50 million people without power. This blackout is one of the biggest reasons demand response is as popular as it is today. DR programs all over the world help PREVENT these occurrences, hence why they DON'T happen.

The NRG plant in Dunkirk IS needed...NY's power grid is suffering without the generating capacity that comes from that site. However, NRG's plan to convert it to natural gas will make it more efficient and environmentally-friendly.

The cost of running fuel for a few hours to run a generator is next to nothing when compared to the revenue a company receives for reducing in the program.

The eletric company for DC does this for residential customers. If you sign up for the program, you get a break on your electric bill.

That saves from the utility $$ going off-grid and buying power dury peak cooling hours on a hot summer's day, but they - automatically - throttle-back your electric use, so you have to run your A/C higher.

Funny, but it's the same power company with the worst service/repair and highest outage rate of any big-city utility company in the US - - instead of maintaining the infrastructure, all the money went to profits/maxing bonuses. Now they have a rate increase before the utility commission to fix their transition lines and trim trees...

Who is going to pay for all the fuel and pay to replace the worn out generators when we get done “saving” all this energy?

first sign of a problem, going liberal and green. and look, who is doing the presentation ? A woman, saving the planet. In the liberal northeast such programs already are in place , so the homeowners do not see any blackouts or brownouts. Plus, some sewage plants cannot use their generators as they pollute the air ! All of this is a success to the simpleton liberals. Dont flush, save the planet . The plants are usually located at the lowest part of the system and will flood if out of power for a time. The worst thing is a flooded sewer plant. but that is art to a liberal ! its waste !Libs dont like electricity, invented by tesla and his ac system. they are trying every trick they can to put us back in the stone age.get your punkas , citizens, democratic air conditioning !
