Where is the real savings,in leaving both buildings open? Brocton did not want to merge with Fredonia, because Fredonia could absorb all their students and would have closed the BCS building! Is it fair now that Pomfret middle school students that live on Webster rd by Farel rd will have to go to Westfield--NO. Re-district, close Brocton and split the district between Westfield and Fredonia!

When the head of BOCES flees an important meeting to make sure he is at this Westfield BOE meeting.... it smells of big problems.

Sounds like alot of concerns. I would say unanswered questions result in a "no" vote. Who would vote for the unknown?

The school Board of Education could delay the vote until after a lot of these questions are answered, but they won't. Wonder why

Oh there are many, many more questions.

Its been 9 months and the questions raised 9 months ago still have not been replied too.

Even Mr. O'Rourke stated at the BOE meeting and as quoted in the paper that answers would be coming, that was at the meeting 2 weeks ago. To day, no reply, WHY?

Is it fair or right that the Westfield taxpayers only receive a 1% tax savings WHILE the Brocton taxpayers receive a 30% discount?

And what about the school superintendents. Brocton just gave their superintendent a new 3 year contract. If he doesn't get the merged school district and the new BOE forces him out, the new merged district will have to pay his salary of around $125,000 which equals around $250,000 for the 2 years he isn't working but still has a contract.

Should the Westfield taxpayer be required to pay the old Brocton Superintendent because the Brocton BOE was dumb and gave him a 3 year deal?

And speaking of "safe zones" who is going to pay that $400,000 or so of "safe zone" money back if the state says brocton had an illegal safe zone.

If the merger passes, taxpayers of Westfield will have to pay that money back, that is who.

Why should Brocton kids who live in the village of Brocton get to ride the bus to school while kids that live in the village of Westfield have to walk? Is that fair? Does that sound like a fair merger? Shouldn't we be asking questions like that?

Is it fair that Brocton has an illegal "safe zone".

Brocton had extra money this year, so what did they do? They hired back the employees they cut last year. Why would you hire more employee when you were getting the job done last year without them. They wanted to spend their money that is why. Why didn't they put those funds into reserve accounts and use them to offset future expenses?

Let me ask, Should Westfield inherit $35 million dollars of Brocton debt in the merger???

Why should be have to pay on 35 million dollars of debt because Brocton didn't take care of their financial house?

LitlDaddy, what do you mean by a "last minute ditch effort by a hold out".

The guy has been asking questions for 9 months and hasn't received any answers.

Does that sound like a last minute ditch effort?

225522, combining these districts WILL NOT make the problems go away. That is why the local residents are asking questions.

sad that something that has been worked on for so many years, gets a last minute ditch effort by a hold out..dude, time has come when mergers are going to be the best way since the population is dwindling..what will be will be...so stop trying to stop this merger, and embrace the joy that the school buildings are still in use.

However will not combining districts make all these problems go away?
