No Phil. I disagree. We have top heavy merged government and have lost local control. I seriously wish we could go back to the Board of Supervisors. That was lean, smart efficient government with much less partisanship. Each Supervisor knew his district and was involved and accountable to that community. Merging is the problem, not the solution.

Let's be honest - we have far too much government in the county and it all gets back to the structure of government. Why do we need 27 towns, 15 villages, 2 cities and 18 school districts plus a county government in a county of only 133,000 residents? It's pure insanity and everyone knows it. We like to blame the state for our high taxes but the state has been encouraging consolidation of governments and school districts. What is the last time you heard Mr. Edwards or either of the two candidates for county executive speak out publicly on the issue of consolidation? They won't do it because they are afraid of losing votes. Our county will continue to go down the drain until we get a leader with the guts to make the necessary changes and a public willing to accept the changes.

GENEROUS salaries and benefits? Didn't the Observer just recently run an article on the average pay of a County employee versus Private sector? If I recall private sector in the County was $3,000 higher. Generous salaries LOL...Not for the average worker.

Mr editor, the govt or its leaders are never ,ever at fault when something goes awry. its either due to insufficient tax revenues or the right wing. the govt must care at all times for its citizens. If a CEO or board of directors said what edwards did, the left would laugh them to scorn and shout greed ! But with the govt, it is different. They are blameless.
