Firearms are second only to the Constitution in importance; they are the peoples' liberty's teeth. George Washington

The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference - they deserve a place of honor with all that's good. George Washington

I'm surprised no one mentioned Obama's famous Chicago...murder capitol of the country, with some of the most stringent gun laws. The next time some one points a gun at you, make sure it only has 7 rounds before you let him/her fire it!!!

Marcia, you're exposure to hunting cloture must be limited to NY? There are many states in the U.S. that have massive feral animal problems. I do believe NY has feral animal issues, but not sure on what scale. In any event, some places utilize helicopters at low altitudes for hunting boars and other nuisance animals because they're so numerous, bordering on out of control. A 100 rd mag would most definitely come in handy.

I think gun owners have compromised enough over the years and that needs to stop. It's always take take take from gun owners. And not that I need one a 100 round mag has never hurt any one. You just have to load more with 10 rounders. But some folk can't comprehend that

I want to first state that I am not categorically against guns. Hunters and others who are licenses to own guns should absolutely be allowed to own guns. However, to say that it is crazy to limit the numbers of bullets allowed will do nothing to save lives is ludicrous. If someone has a 100 bullet magazine they will do much more harm than someone with a 10 bullet magazine. And there is no reason for someone to have such a large mag. You will never use that i hunting. There should be a level of compromise to protect the lives on the citizens of our country. And steiner, why must you be so darn demeaning to women in every comment you make. Did your mother beat you something? You art disgusting.

DKexpat; I was not at the luncheon. But Gerace is quoted "I'm a gun advocate. I believe strongly in the Second Amendment and the right to bear arms." And I would like to believe that he would like to repeal the law but he never says that in the article. From his actions I believe that so long as he is exempt from the law, that he supports the SAFE act. I also believe he is on record as supporting the SAFE act. But these latest quotes don’t sound like someone who supports the SAFE act. Does anyone know if repeal of the SAFE act was actually mentioned? I believe in listening to what people say AND watching what they do.

Baseball, that's silly. People ONLY kill with guns and that is it. No one uses any other sort of weapon as a means of terminating any life fom, period, don't you know that? Cuomo says so!

The LWV in Chau Cty has a worthy history of hosting public forums at which politicos are asked to state their positions on topical issues (rather than hide behind campaign statements or sound bites).

It's ironic that this time – when the LWV hosts a panel that (1) is in favor of the 2nd Amendment and (2) repealing the SAFE Act – nobody's shouting about those dastardly liberal-leaning women...

The last paragraph says it all. Now I have to check how many rounds are in my magazine before venturing out today.

Escapee & Roadglide your both correct, Sheriff Gerace was praising the SAFE act initially, but I think the public outrage over it has him trying to play both sides because he wants to be reelected.

People kill people and will use what ever weapon at hand to do it, if not a gun, then something else! Criminals laugh at the safe gun act, it means absolutely nothing to them accept easier pickings on the public!

The gals are using their nurturing skills, raising our awareness. Well, we already know the safe act is a bad law. Passed in knee jerk reaction . Guns were and are a part of american history. I heard on tv, on PBS again, a cop official saying" you dont think the criminal is going to follow gun control laws , do you ?" It must be a resounding yes from our local officials and activists. The safe act should be repealed. It makes criminals out of law abiding citizens. Hey thats what prohibition did !

Escapee you are exactly right that he was a supporter of the safe act. As a matter of fact I remember him being on news stating this. I never had an issue with him as sheriff however with this I will never vote for him again. I think the change of tune is a "time to save my ass for reelection" also look at all the sheriffs in the state who are opposed to this "law". I think they may have whispered in his ear and told him to fall in line.

I recall Sheriff Joe Gerace as a strong supporter of the SAFE act immediately following the passage of the law. Now he is saying that "I'm a gun advocate. I believe strongly in the Second Amendment and the right to bear arms.". In this article, he doesn’t say anything about repealing the law. The only time prior to this when he complained about the law was when he wanted to exempt himself, his deputies, and retired deputies from the law. This doesn’t seem consistent. Is he saying what he thinks we want to hear to get re-elected or was I wrong about his support of the SAFE act?
