IDA's are the biggest waste of taxpayer dollars, yet republicans who say they are all about fiscal responsibility, have no problem handing out large sums of money to businesses who promise local jobs and then don't come through. Do they pay the money back when they don't live up to their promises? Any politician who supports this unaccounted give away of our tax dollars should not be re-elected. Corporate welfare does little to support the economy but does a good job of lining the pockets of greedy businessmen. Hey George, how much money has been spent locally by the IDA and how many jobs have been created as a result?

GeorgeB67, why again is it a bad idea to support local laborers and local business's? Who is going to build your families hotel and indoor water park? Are you going to draw from this area? If not, then you should not get the funding from the IDA. Why should my tax dollars help you and your family if you are not going to help someone that may possibly in your district. You are running again, you don't have my vote.

Although do not know all the facts other than what is presented in this paper, these did seem like good ideas to me. Trying to keep business as local as we can. Is that not the entire point of the IDA?

I know it really bothers me when I see a construction job at a public funded facility that is being conducted by a company outside of our area. Why not have a local company get some extra consideration on jobs that we the tax payers are funding?

GeorgeB67..I do not know you nor do I know Whitney. But your comments seem to be very insulting and are off target of the issues presented in this article. Sour grapes between the two of you?

George, please keep your party politics out of here. Why is it better to attract new business than support the ones we have? What is wrong with trying to promote employement of our county residents? Maybe we could get some laborers off welfare and on to payroll even if it is only for a short time.

Whitney's resolutions were tabled and voted down by members of all three parties represented in the legislature. This is because they are bad ideas. He was asked to sit with members of the IDA to try and retool them. He did not. He simply reintroduced the same thing over and over.

These resolutions would be damaging to our ability to attract and grow business and they are opposed by the Southern Tier Builders Association, which represents union and non union labor, the Chamber of Commerce and the Manufacturers Association.

This is Whitney's political shell game to draw attention away from his failure to represent his district as a legislator.
