October 20, 2013

By MELANIE MANN Here we go again! Like the proverbial bad penny, County Executive Greg Edwards has showed up again in front of the cameras proffering another buyer for our County Home....

EXCELLENT LETTER EXCELLENT POINTS

You have made all the points for NOT selling our County Home. Thank You

As for the gas well...It cost us..yes the taxpayers...about $500,000. Yet it sits there idle. No one has answered any of the questions on why it was drilled...why it is not connected, why we are not selling gas from it.

I am shocked really that so many residents of our County just ignore this huge waste of OUR money. Why has NO elected official had to answer questions on why the well was drilled, how much it cost, or why it is idle.

Judeye why don't you call Mr Edwards and ask him that question? I have suggested that before but you have not done so. Any reason why not? Don't say he wont return your call either.

Anyone would think that Medicaid residents stay there free. The home is paid by medicaid. Anyone buying the home would hopefully research the area and see that 80% is Medicaid. If they don't have Medicaid residents where do you suppose they will get the private pay ones? They will have many empty beds. As for your perks that you are "willing" to give up how many more don't we know about? Blame yourself for the status of the home. Uniform allowance....nice if you can get it. Sick pay bonus....sweet. How about writing another article and listing the other ridiculous perks!!!

I applaud you Ms. Mann. You have mentioned many valid points. Thank you.

JoeW, Mr. Edwards will not answer that question and neither will the legislators. They have been asked and they have skirted around the issue. They all know it should never have been drilled. Another blunder for Edwards.

Ask for you commentor, no matter where the residents may end up we are still responsible for the medicaid bill. But lets get rid of the CCH instead of putting into place the cost savings. Right. Lets lose more jobs in this county because of mismanagement from the executive on down.

As for the perks. The uniforms are like many businesses. For instance, Burger King, Tim Hortons, plant workers, mechanics to name a few. This is not a perk it is part of doing business.

I would love to see you work with one of the families that have lost their jobs in this fine county and tell them, "sorry, even though you where a hard working person and paid your taxes we are not going to help you put food on your table or possibly keep your home.

You are an idiot. You belong sitting right next to Edwards and your legislator. No common sense and lack of morals.

Thanks for stating many good arguments for keeping the CCH in county hands. I agree that the care will go poorly with a private owner. Everyone I know who have had family there, (including myself) have been pleased with the care. We need to keep the home a county facility.

Marcia does that mean you will not vote for Ron Johnson? He runs a couple of those private homes you know.

thank you ms. mann for your input. i understand that this is a very personal issue for you and your family. i as an employee at the home feel all the pain and anguish my residents and families are feeling about this matter. i just hope and pray that the legislators vote no sale. get this county through this voting year. then revisit all our possibilities with the new officials. i think we all know the plight of inc. in medical costs, vs decrease in federal funding. now we need to get together and put a good solid plan in place with gov. and union. god bless all the residents and families that are fearful of the sale.

so lets play gov. .......... i think all the families should lie on medicaid forms and then all the residents would be charged with a felony and the home would be come a prison and be TOTALLY FUNDED FOR ALL MEDICAL............SOLUTION..

JUDEYE, IT HAS BEEN EMNTIONED OVER AND OVER, TIME AND TIME AGAIN. THE GAS WELL WAS DRILLED ON RECOMMENDATION FROM A NY ENERGY AUTHORITY. WHY ARE YOU SO INTENT ON IGNORING THIS? I'M PUTTING THIS IN VAPS SO YOU CAN BETTER SEE IT, BECAUSE I FEEL YOUR EYES ARE FAILING YOU, AND IF THAT IS NOT THE CASE, YOU ARE SIMPKY IGNORING WHAT HAS BEEN SAID OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN. IT WAS RECOMMENDED BY A NY ENERGY AUTHORITY. QUIT QUESTIONING WHAT HAS ALREADY BEEN ANSWERED. FFS!

Sell the home. And right after that, sell the airports, too. Then, find whatever else the county owns that can be sold. It's that simple!

Stop hiding behind the residents. Sell the CCH. Taxes are high, why should we care about them? The sale of the CCH will help lower the taxes that I pay if 80% of the residents are medicaid. Ship them to Timbuktu if it'll help. They're not paying my bills, why should I help pay theirs with the money I work hard for? It's not fair that you selfish people insist on saving the CCH.

localresident..stop yelling. What you say even when you scream it out makes NO sense.

RECOMMENDATION FROM A NY ENERGY AUTHORITY.

So that is why we spent a half of a million dollars? Some energy authority recommended it? Good grief your really believe that? How and why would our County government use our tax dollars to fund something that a NY energy authority (note that you did not name the authority) recommended? What was in it for us...the taxpayer?

This must be a joke right?

themaid1...you do realize your taxes will not come down..not even by one cent if they sell the CC. Ask them. Not one of them will commit to telling you how much this save us in taxes. They just will use the money on something else.

I know of someone right now in the CC who is a Private Pay. Her family could afford to send her anywhere. They chose the CC.

Like that walk around group that came to give suggestions to Dunkirk on how to improve our city and economy, we need to look at some things,. like the CC, as one of our Assets, not a liability.
