October 26, 2013

Last week we learned the terrible news that the Lake Erie Regional Health System of New York filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification advising that 460 employees at Lake Shore Hospital......

Snotziman/Edwards..

Here are direct quotes from the Asset Purchase Agreement with Vestracare..

"Nothing herein shall require Purchaser to hire any of sellers current employees.".. 'The Asset Purchase Agreement shall not constitute an employment agreement or condition of employment for any employee of the County or any affiliate of the County"..

In Mr Ed's Monday Morning Memo he had the gall to put his political agenda on the county computer. He is pitting one workforce against another. Another management tactic. How sad to sacrifice 280 workers for the sake of a mismanaged health care system, instead of trying to save ALL the jobs in the North county. We have been the forgotten end of the county for the last 8 years. It's time we were included in the county agenda! WE MATTER!

I wonder if all those in support of regionalization were considering moving all of our healthcare to Pennsylvania?

You're so right, Christopher, as I learned first hand how the AG office REALLY works. My first telephone conversation with a subordinate in the AG's office was very promising. However, the next conversation (several weeks later) erased any hope I had after he confided: "the AG will not pursue any allegations that are not in the best interests of NYS (exact words).

If the CCLeg has enough votes, the sale will go through, regardless of any unethical, illegal or immoral actions that may have occurred to win such votes.

Actually if Mr. Edwards was any kind of TRUE executive he'd have already contacted the AG re the closing of Lakeshore and how and why and especially about the money trail! So, I had to do it myself. I doubt it'll go anywhere, as the AG office is just another political office, after all.

It's pretty self-explanatory as to how Edwards has led our County. He was elected to make good decisions that would be beneficial to all residents, and to be financially diligent with our tax monies. The FACT that we are one of the top 10 highest taxed counties in not just our area but in the entire country says a lot as to how he has led our county...into ruination. Edwards has been sneaky, and conniving, underhanded and dishonest in his plan to "unload" the County Home. That is also a FACT, although hard to prove, it is well know by not only legislators but residents alike. His "decisions" to fund the airports before the elderly is not something a person should be proud of. His decision to use County Home monies to drill a gas well, knowing that it was not needed or that it would not be beneficial to the Home at any time...was that honest? He complains that the union employees and their benefits are to blame...did he not agree to union contracts in the past

What benefit is derived from anyone, any firm for holding a escrow account? If you sense conflict of interest, get the NYS AG involved right now, they are not closed on weekends! You will of course do that right away correct? I'll hold my breath on this one as well.

When all of your preconceived notions fall through, Mr. Edwards, and the County Home employees along with the Lakeshore employees are on the unemployment rolls because Vestracare did not hire as you seem to think they will....where is the blame to be placed? Certainly not on you. After all, look at the wonderful job you did of making Chautauqua County nationally known....as one of the top 10 HIGHEST taxed counties in ALL OF THE NATION! You can fool some of the people all of the time, all the people some of the time but you cannot fool all the people all of the time. BRAVO to you...what a fine job you have done....you should be MORE than proud.

I'm trying to think of anything Mr. Edwards has done lower than using the closing of Lakeshore hospital to advance his obsession with closing the Nursing home, but I really can't think of anything. But at least it's a sign that some of our county officials are aware that 460 people are losing their jobs. Where's the help and support for those people from the county? Where's Mr. Borello? Where's the bi-partisan support from everyone else in county government? For this garbage to be the lone comment so far is an embarrassment, or should be. Of course, that's assuming anyone in County Government is capable of embarrassment.

What an about face Edwards has made in the course of his career as County Exec. He went from chastising his running opponent in 2009 (for even mentioning selling the Home) to now, chastising the few legislators left that oppose selling the Home. Is Edwards big hurry to sell the Home due to his not running for another term and his fear that if the Home is NOT sold the newly elected County Exec (preferably Ron Johnson) will step in and do what Edwards could not/would not do and make the Home a self-supporting facility once again? It has only been on Edwards watch that the Home has had problems? I'm sure his gig would be up if the Home were to make a turn around on someone else s watch...then all would know his main objective was to make the Home fail in the first place. This letter of his is a disgrace. More lies, more false hopes for a county that is going under. And, yes, this county that he so proudly managed IS going under. Something to be proud of, huh, Mr. County Exec?

The 10 nurses were quickly dispatched to work for a SentosaCare home in Smithtown, Avalon Gardens Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, but they said it was soon obvious that the terms of their contracts were not being honored. They joined 16 other Filipino nurses in claiming they were significantly underpaid, did not receive the same health insurance and workers' compensation benefits as other nurses and worked on understaffed shifts.

Avalon Gardens Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, Located at 7 Route 25A, Smithtown, NY 11787-1626.Martin Farvenblum,Board member,Corporate stockholder. THE 10 Filipino nurses were branded by the Suffolk County district attorney as derelict in their duties, accused of abandoning five chronically ill children, four of whom were on ventilators, and one terminally ill man by quitting their jobs in 2006 in a labor dispute. But in a strongly worded ruling, a state appeals court, the Appellate Division in Brooklyn, has barred District Attorney Thomas J. Spota from prosecuting the nurses. The court said that he joined with their employers in forcing them into 'involuntary servitude' by using criminal sanction to require them to work against their will, thus violating the nurses' constitutional rights under the 13th Amendment. The Jan. 13 ruling also said the district attorney violated the First Amendment rights of the lawyer who advised the nurses by prosecuting him for conspiracy.

Judeye why must you continue to twist what was actually written like this- "Now we are to believe that not only will all the current employees of the CC be hired at their current wage and benefits, but that many of the Lakeshore workers will also be hired". Where are those exact words in Mr Edwards statement?

I know folks are tired of hearing about the gas well and the waste of nearly $500K it cost to drill it only to abort the project soon thereafter. To me, this SHOULD'VE raised valid questions concerning the Co Exec's motives.

Was Edwards ever really committed to lowering operating costs at the CCH, or was he motived to do the opposite in an attempt to gain CCLeg & public support to sell? Why did Edwards & Hellwig defiantly refuse to follow any of the cost-saving measures contained in the 1st CGR report, issued OVER 3 yrs ago? Why did we pay an additional $80K for a 2nd CGR that essentially repeated the same recommendations contained in the 1st one?

To sell or not is up to the CCLeg, but I believe their reasons could've easily been avoided, but when the CCLeg doesn't care about such highly questionable actions, this is what you get.
