I'm well aware of that Norman but there are some on here who have not a clue so I'm glad you corrected your error. Considering the commentaries and opposing editorials that appear in the Observer on a regular basis I respectively submit that your "perfect statement" is way off base. John is a very fair and open minded person but there are limits as to what a person can say without a paper trail. I'll leave it at that.

joew."There are two sides to every story believe it or not".

In this newspaper and this blog there is only one side to the story, the editor JD's side. Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely. An observation that a person's sense of morality lessens as his or her power increases.A perfect statement that fits this newspaper and editor to the T.

JoeW..how am I to know if what he tells me..is the same reason he told you? Just saying.... Post what he tells you and I'll either agree or disagree.(provided you let him know you will) I will tell you this however, over the years I have known John he has never given me pause to doubt his integrity or his honesty. I doubt that will change.

I will agree that John D is responsive.

He did respond to my emails..and I hope to speak directly with him today on this issue

What I do not understand and will ask him directly..is why first all comments were deleted..and two why the next day they did not have an article with an explanation for all of us to read rather than having us individually call him up to discuss.

JoeW..how am I to know if what he tells me..is the same reason he told you? Just saying....

If anyone has read any of my letters in the past, you will note many were long, and many were not in the same opinion as most in this paper (ha ha to say the least) Yet, I have never even had ONE word changed. Something I highly commend this paper for. Which makes me very concerned with what was in this article that the editorial staff felt they had to filter out....and after they altered the article...why they felt they had to delete our comments.

PROGRESSIVE44...usually in a good newspaper..they will have an opposing view on the opposite page from say an editorial.

No we do not see that here in this paper.

I wonder if this paper would allow a weekly column..to be shared by a variety of writers...for the progressive view.

Just a thought..might bring it up when I speak with John D today...

I'm sorry you feel that way Paul but I don't see it is as a betrayal of trust because I said I "understand" why John took the action he did. Your explanations are all well spelled out. I didn't feel a second phone call would have given me any more info then what you had already put out. Captain did you ever hear the saying"water off a ducks butt"? Heck you don't even know the difference between a OPED and a commentary!

Thanks Paul, I figured as much about joew, and I agree that YOUR opinion of what happened is what counts. joe is trying to come off as some self-appointed mediator. His credibility is now worthless, and he has about as much integrity as this newspaper.

Quite simply, my article, if unacceptable, should not have been printed, not printed but butchered. And that is the reality of the situation. JoeW's opinion doesn't count, he didn't write the article. Whether he thinks John was right not to allow certain sections, and I disagree, has nothing to do with the option of just not printing it or gutting it. If I'd been told sooner, I'd have written another article. I disagree that in John's words, Medicor is just another local business like a restaurant or a car dealership. I don't need either of those for my health or life. And Joe, you SAID you'd call me, you didn't, you abused my trust, again, in MY opinion.

"Suffice to say I understand why John did what he did..."???

Uh, no...not even close! Are you really that pompous to believe that your assurance means anything?

I wonder if Christopher was just as understanding? If so, can we expect his apology to be forthcoming?

Before anything else we need a amendment to allow for recall votes. Then and only then can we hold feet to the fire. What happened recently in Colorado is proof of that!Andy proposed that in the assembly and it never saw the light of day! Anyone care to take a SWAG who shot it down?

Well Captain I read Paul's letter in its entirety as I said I would AND I spoke with John D. Suffice to say I understand why John did what he did. I suggest you and any others do the same instead of posting uninformed opinions. There are two sides to every story believe it or not.

I do agree with captian on one thing. Major issues such as sale of the CCH,airports, landfill etc. should be made by the voters. You can't trust everyone to keep their personal opinions out of it and act on the wishes of their constituents!

I for one never said it was our right, or this paper's duty, to print whatever we submit. I did, however, criticize the Observer after learning it omitted key points of an article, which IS their right, but so much so that the author felt it necessary to explain.

I've read much longer articles written by other guest columnists, so we can only speculate why this paper did what it did. Bottom line: It's their paper, they can do what they want w/o reason. The Observer should remember that readers form opinions based on what they read, but then again, they may not care one bit, after all, they are the only local paper.

American, Get REAL! No average Joe has the money to start a newspaper. Perhaps not even the local Observer without the deep pockets of a holding company such as Ogden Publishing (oh oh, will this get censored too?). As far as starting a blog... Very few people even bother to read this one. So, its either this paper or a candle in the dark!

You don't want your material edited or censored* then start your own newspaper. Or news "blog", whatever it takes to make yourself satisfied. And the funny thing is some of the same ones whining about "censorship" and freedom of speech being infringed on as guaranteed by the Constitution want are the same ones who want the 2nd changed or altered to meet there views. BTW Paul good article ( at least what was there).

I am bothered when a "community's only newspaper" can advocate political opinion, such as endorsing candidates or legislative decisions. The primary purpose of a newspaper should be to inform the readership adequately to enable readers to vote intelligently and to make their own opinions known to elected leaders. A hundred years ago, most communities had more than one newspaper with the various papers advocating political stands. Now, however, most communities are without a newspaper or share one with many other communities. Yes, the Observer has been good about accepting letters of opinion, but that option has its problems. One is delays of days or a week prior to ublication.
