Keep politics out of honors

November 12, 2013

Sometimes, our elected and appointed government officials do not consider the consequences. It happened just a few weeks ago, during the so-called “government shutdown....

That's what you on the left keep saying about Obama isn't it. He is to blame for nothing that has happened since he took office. And it's always you on the left that start with the racism and name calling. You Robert prove everyone's point about the left. When you have nothing you cry racism, bigotry or name call. What a sad life you have.

Agree with joew regarding zero-based budgeting. This past fiscal year, even with the looming shutdown, rather than - gasp - give unspent money back, agencies did things like buy three years of copy machine toner.

The Washington Post had an article estimating that 5-10% of agencies' total budget spending came during the last week of the fiscal year. Shamefully, the VA, with it's inability to process claims in a timely matter, spent tens/hundreds of thousands of dollars on . . . paintings for its offices and centers rather than on fixing its systems.

Judeye, concerning Head Start, I consulted a close friend who was an administrator for them for over a decade. She said just about everything you said almost word for word. But, she did say one thing you probably wouldn’t agree with. Here’s a quote of what she said. “But I do think the gov't gives Head Start way too much money. At the end of each school yr, we had to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on junk just so we didn't lose funding for the following yr. If a person with a brain controlled the funding of Head Start, they would watch the spending & what each Head Start program spends their money on. Should only be spent on classrooms, classroom supplies, teacher/aides salaries, not expensive junk that is spent at the last minute.”

Typical government: If you don’t spend it, you loose it from your next years budget.

With Obama postponing being forced to buy more expensive insurance for a year a question comes to mind. Did he do it legally through Congress or do you suppose he just took it upon himself to change the law?

Judeye here is what you posted"Meals on Wheels was cut during shut down...thousands of seniors did not receive meals. Many of them count on that for their primary meal of the day". You said "thousands of seniors did not receive meals. Again you try and modify what you said but you do not retract the original statement which was not true! Judeye can you at least say that what you said was based on false information?

What would you think about a maximum of three months of campaigning and limits to amounts spent by on all candidates campaigning. Three months of hearing the lies they tell should be enough for anyone.

"start with "citizens united" the law that says corporations are people." I finally agree with you but it has to include union money also or it doesn't mean a thing. Unions helped buy this presidency.

"There are legal ways to change laws" That's why Obama chose executive order to let illegals stay here instead of going through Congress to do it.

"A Wall Street Journal editorial in December 2010 called PolitiFact "part of a larger journalistic trend that seeks to recast all political debates as matters of lies, misinformation and 'facts,' rather than differences of world view or principles."Mark Hemingway of The Weekly Standard criticized all fact-checking projects by news organizations, including PolitiFact, the Associated Press and the Washington Post, writing that they "aren’t about checking facts so much as they are about a rearguard action to keep inconvenient truths out of the conversation." In December 2011, Northeastern University journalism professor Dan Kennedy wrote in the Huffington Post that the problem with fact-checking projects was "there are only a finite number of statements that can be subjected to thumbs-up/thumbs-down fact-checking." cont

"Matt Welch, in the February 2013 issue of Reason magazine, criticized PolitiFact and other media fact-checkers for focusing much more on statements by politicians about their opponents, rather than statements by politicians and government officials about their own policies, thus serving as "a check on the exercise of rhetoric" but not "a check on the exercise of power".

Not that it will help those that have already lost their insurance under the non-healthcare act but this just in "President Obama is poised to announce today that Americans can keep their health insurance plans -- for up to a year -- before they are required to get coverage that meets the stiffer requirements of the Affordable Care Act, ABC News has learned." So now the rest have another year of manageable insurance payments before the terrorist act kicks in.

You let corporations buy politicians and support faux news groups to espouse propaganda against any politician that may think people are more important than say big oil. This is where all the misinformation starts that you guys think are facts. jeez, you just don't get it and never will

"I know he has been insulted, disrespected, made fun of, ignored and harassed more than any other in my lifetime." Don't buy this story at all. I know the left and the left wing media have done all this to Bush Jr. much more then anyone could to your leftist hero.

Respect for the office does not always mean respect for the person holding that office. I highly respect the office of the President no matter who is in it at the time. I hold no respect for the present day holder of it and surprise he isn't the first one. I held no respect for Carter as President, for Nixon as president, for LBJ etc. You do not have to respect the person if they have not earned it. Did you respect and never say anything against Bush Jr? Did you respect Bush Jr.?

"judeye is that any different then your "god" in DC "

I have only ONE GOD and it is not in DC or in any politician or bank or money or any of the other things so many worship these days. My GOD made only one commandment..to LOVE

I am not blind to the shortcomings of our current President. There are many policies and decisions that he has made that I strongly disagree with...drones and not closing Gitmo quickly come to mind.

However, overall I think he is one of the best presidents in my lifetime. I know he has been insulted, disrespected, made fun of, ignored and harassed more than any other in my lifetime.

Anyone else see the photo of the 90 yr old veteran in a wheelchair meeting Pres Obama? As the veteran struggles to stand, Obama leans over and tells him to remain sitting. The veteran stands anyway, saying...but sir You are the President.

RESPECT

Something of the past in our Country? I hope not.
