Cassadaga Valley: Reaping reward from scandal

November 18, 2013

What happened last week in the Cassadaga Valley Central School District is surreal. Two educators placed in charge of overseeing teachers and students are either out or on leave....

To Commentor: It was the teacher who was placed on leave but the BOE IS CONSIDERING BRINGING HER BACK IN JANUARY!!!! Of course they would not give a simple yes or no answer at the last BOE meeting as to her return to cvcs! Just the kind of teacher I want teaching my child.

Cap'n, all sarcasm aside, you now know the truth. I am confirming that the comments made in the previous post by Hooray are true.

bear: I was being sarcastic. I have no idea what's true. The only way to be sure is after reading it in the OBSERVER (more sarcasm).

I just found out today that there is also a teacher/student affair from Cassadaga Schools that has come to light. Who is the teacher involved with that? Two torrid affairs in one school. Get out the popcorn.

Captain, the situation that Hooray and commentor are referring to is completely separate from the Super/Principal situation and is absolutely NOT baseless, nor is it a rumor.

commentor: these are just baseless rumors. Besides, no one on this BOE would ever confirm it, even if it were true. The BOE at CVCS has proven it won't disclose personnel matters if doing so would lead to a possible lawsuit regarding defamation of character. Financial losses apparently trump morality, as well as the safety of underage students.

Yah think the sweet deal that Smith & Ms DiDo walked away with is starting to look pretty good to some their ex co-workers?

WOW sounds like Peyton Place. Who was drunk and half clothed the teacher or the student? Why hasn't the parent of this student addressed this situation. A teacher of that caliber should absolutely NOT be still teaching there.

I think the BOE mishandled this whole situation from the start. CVCS rezes want to know HOW MUCH the actual settlement is gonna cost them, not necessarily the "allegations" against Smith. If there was ample evidence that warranted his resignation, and apparently there was, then the BOE acted properly. No one is questioning this.

The BOE, however, should've been truthful from the start and disclosed HOW MUCH the deal THEY agreed to is costing taxpayers, NOT try to hide behind some legal clause that clearly doesn't apply. Was the separation agreement too generous? If so, then this may explain why the BOE "opts" to keep the matter secret, otherwise, it may have to face public criticism if deserved.

After all the scandal at CVCS with the superintendent and the high school prinicipal, there is still the issue if the school board is going to reinstate a teacher who reportedly was having sexual relations with students, who was drunk and half clothed on the senior trip 2013 and who was discussing oral sex in the class room with students! Have they not learned their lesson?? Unfortunately it is the students who suffer and are ill prepared for college, the job market, et. And of course the good ole taxpayer is left holding the bag for paying out contracts, settling lawsuits and hiring replacement superintendents, principals as others are on administrative paid leave!

I would imagine, that if you sat down with a 4th or 5th grader & ask the right questions, you would have the answers that you seek about the going on at CVCS. I went there over 50 years ago & I didn't miss much. The Kids always know before the "ADULTS"..

I agree with you Santora but I must also say that unless the Observer has ties with the NSA they won't get anymore info then a citizen can.

Tell me the full story on what was supposedly done and then we can all make unbiased judgements. The Observer lives up to its name..."observing" BUT there are NO facts for review!Unless you were part of the actual review an/or agreement...we are ALL like commandant Klink....we know nothing

Oh, and Joe, the "rock throwing" is an inside thing between Bulldog10 (John M) and I, and you haven't a clue what it pertains to. It does NOT have anything to do with name calling, etc. So, you know where you can put that shoe, and wear it fits.

Paul with this statement you made-"Again, everyone is basing their opinions on ASSUMPTIONS as to exactly what went on. I have no idea exactly what went on". -are we to assume that your assume statement on today's poll could as well be in that category??

As for running one's mouth, John, other than taking me to task personally, do you have any other real concerns?

The rock throwing was the giveaway, John. Give it up. And man, are you obsessed with George Zimmerman or what? Give it a break! I understand why you don't want anyone to know you're a retired teacher. But then, making a comment to me face to face that was the same as what you posted here was sort of a dead giveaway. But that's okay, Mr. Brocton, we'll have a chance to talk about this sometime in the future, I'm sure.

Darkstar, you are right the public has the right to know. The BOE hides behind the attorneys telling them not to talk. If the superintendent and principal did something wrong its no different then someone stealing from walmart, tell the whole story.

And if I were that new CV superintendent you bet I would have that desk top cleaned real well.

My name is not john, your confused big time. I feel sorry for whoever john is.

The fact is, Christopher you make some claim that your so open minded not to make a decision on this case. Yet you ran your mouth about Zimmerman before AND EVEN AFTER HE WAS FOUND NOT GUILTY. How open minded are you? Not!
