Look Phil & Darkstar the whole reason these people move here is the climate and the great opportunities to achieve the American dream. What else could attract them in such droves??

Dark star I agree - it's all part of the decay and deterioration process that our leaders refuse to recognize.

PhilJulian,

You make a good point about population, but it needs to go beyond the simple total number of people.

We need to remember that while the working class have been fleeing the area for a couple of decades we have also had an influx of those coming here to live off the taxpayer.

Now when you add in the fact that those living off taxpayer are likely to have more children then those paying their own way we have a recipe for disaster.

I love the NRG deal and $300 million is a real blessing for the area but what happened to the $500 million proposal from NRG? The jobs at Lake Shore Hospital have still not been lost and the county home will not go out of business. In fact, it might expand. When I see our population growing then I will know we are on the right path. I continue to believe progress will only happen when we consolidate all the taxing authorities to make our area more business friendly. Until then - we are just a microcosm of Detroit.

"...Nothing to loose..."

In NYS, are you serious?

Let's start with the incubator itself, which has cost NY taxpayers millions of dollars and as far as I've heard we have received nothing for all that money except more promises of future benefit from paying for it.

225522, I'd settle for a list of how much...uhh, "overtime" was paid out to IDA projects, and the name of the person keeping the receipt. Yes, I only said "receipt" singular, because the rest will have been "misplaced".

How about a score card from city hall? i.e. Population change yr to yr., Number of occupied homes, Employment yr to yr., building permits issued over

How bout a score card from city hall? i.e. Number of occupied homes year over year, Cost of city Gov't year over year, Building permits over $25,000.00 issued. Then we could measure some degree of progress. I think we will see one church close this year..that won't be very good news in the 4th ward neighborhoods.

A Federal judge did strike down the unsafe act restriction placed on 10 round magazines. That is good news!

Let's not forget those 460 jobs at Lakeshore Hospital before we do the "Happy Dance". And then there's the County Home, faced with an absolute loss of jobs, as well as pay and benefits for those who keep them. Add it up, and all those proposals are going to have to generate a few million dollars in disposable income to the area. I won't hold my breath.
