MatthiasJ...I'm AGREEING WITH YOU, and have been at the forefront of this issue for quite some time, and writing about it, and no longer write for the Observer due to being seriously "edited" on my last article which dealt with this issue.

The only person who has complete control over Lakeshore at the moment is the US. District Bankruptcy Court's Chief Justice. If you noticed, he dismissed LERHSNY's motion to lease the 2 clinics. You can bet that UPMC is not happy with that decision because the feds will look closely at any violations there may be of abuse of FEMA funds. I'm wondering if they managed to find a way to use FEMA funds that were supposed to be to rebuild Tri County out of the flood to build the urgent care center. In reality, it was not the whole LERHSNY board that decided not to rebuild Tri County but the BIG GUNS from UPMC that pushed that decision so they had one less hospital to deal with in order to carry out their plan of funneling patients to Hamot. Perhaps Hamot should be the one closed if they can't manage to get enough patients for their 412 beds in a city the size of Erie. What do you think Lakeshoresupporter2?? More people need to funnel information that they have to Sen. Young.

Christopher, I agree that health care is a business BUT UPMC is a critter of the worst kind. It is blatantly using its non profit status to avoid paying property taxes on its extensive holdings in Pittsburgh. It is I repeat, a 10 BILLION dollar a yr global corporation which has profit making companies within its corporate structure and has been sued by the city of Pittsburgh. They have also been sued for violations of the antitrust laws for monopolistic behavior. Read the extensive 16 page report that is well documented that has been referenced more than once in comments. It is obvious that most have not read it because people keep asking the same questions over and over that would have been answered if they had read it. LERHSNY does not have complete control now over anything but Brooks at this point. I'm sure you read that Lakeshore is now under a separate board of 3 people and a new interim CEO. Gary Rhodes may be the interim CEO of Brooks but John Galati is the interim CEO of LS.

Joe, apparently there is 1 person on this site that does not want the truth to be told for sure! Matthias, opening the lab was a HUGE slap especially because they cut a lot of those services because they didn't want duplication. Now they open up a separate lab to try to cut into Lake Shore's business. We all need to boycott the new lab!!

Once again this "paper" has printed half truths in support of Brooks aka LERHSNY aka UPMC/Hamot and bashing Lake Shore!! The 'loans" are FEMA funds from the flood in Gowanda and building collapse in Forestville. Brooks has been trying to get control of those clinics since October. They are the only things Brooks has wanted to save from the start of all this and before. They thought that we were all just going to roll over and take it. They don't care about Lake Shore or the community we serve. I think they want the clinics so they can force them into Medacore. And yes Brooks has been sending patients to Hamot against their will for a long time. My Aunt was one of them so I know that to be fact.

Why aren't the BOD's of LERHSNY being called on the carpet and being held responsible? Seem's like they are always in hiding. Didn't they hide at FSU when they were going to have one of their last meeting's? Do they have two sets of books like is being rumored? Are they looting Lakeshore Hospital? Maye if they came out of hiding and had a public hearing all the gossip and innuendos could be put to rest. But then again this would mean telling the truth.

"...that's the problem with the entire USA everything is business. Nothing is for the good of the people."

Too bad our feelings for our fellow man can be turned on & off at will, otherwise, this same post would support why the CCH should NOT be sold, and of course, commentor has repeatedly posted his pro-sale views.

I think Lake Shore will be nothing but a M A S H OR Urgent care unit company and all will be transferred to Buffalo or Erie --

That is the problem with the entire USA everything is business. Nothing is for the good of the people. We are becoming more and more of a Socialist Country every day. Our choices are becoming fewer and fewer every day. Americans need to start rebelling.

Healthcare in America is big business. All of this mess from start to finish is just that, business. It has nothing to do with community, humanity or people, it's just business.

the clinics need to be operatated by a hospital why are theemployees rumored to have been told by LERHSNY/UPMC that if Lakeshore closes Brooks will become a staging station for stabilizing patients before being shipped out of state whether they want to be or not. Without Lakeshore they can do as they please. The lab that opened in SC is a clear slap in the face to LS and to make sure that it's lab facilities are not successful. It is not just for Medicor patients but is open to anyone and Barnes is pushing the lab. Lab is a UPMC facility. It's signs say that it takes 2 WNY insurance plans and UPMC health care plan. Now why would a NY state lab take out of state insurance????

Hmmm.... The critters are still scattering.... If Brooks financed the urgent care center, then why are they worried about whether Lakeshore closes?? Why is Gary Rhodes still in the picture when he was fired by Lakeshore and replaced by John Galati. It looks to me like the only facility that is still part of LERHSNY is Brooks Hospital you may as well say that it belongs to UPMC since it chose to affiliate with them and since Gary Rhodes also holds a position at Hamot Hospital and 2 positions at Kane hospital both of which are UPMC holdings... look at their website. FEMA had approved the rebuilding of Tri County and the funding for it but the UPMC faction on the board held the upper and appeared to be the force behind not allowing it to be rebuilt as it wouldn't fit their apparent monopolistic behavior plans to funnel all in patient care to the 412 bed Hamot hospital. Apparently they can't find enough patients in Erie to fill the beds. What does that say about Hamot? If indeed ( con't)
