Yes, let's spend a few million before we kill them off, I mean it's only tax dollars, it's not real money.

Should we also ask for new research before killing snakehead fish or Asian carp? Or how about the water chestnut, or whatever the plant was that they were searching all over for in the County last summer?

Senator Lavalle has introduced legislation to immediately halt the eradication of the Mute Swan. The bill (S.6667) establishes a moratorium on the killing of Mute Swans and compels the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to hold off any decisions until a new independent study is conducted. Among the many issues raised about the DEC’s plan were questions of the validity of the justification of the proposed actions. It appears that the DEC utilized 40-year-old data to come to the decision. He said it's all about the science with me. Haphazard planning without the science to back up the theories isn’t acceptable.

Wow, the entire state against 2200 birds that have been here for years? Unless they're spreading some sort of deadly disease or something, leave well enough alone. what a waste of money.

From my childhold (which, BTW, I still embrace):

Q: What do you call a crate full of ducks?

A: A box of quackers!

When asked for comment in a round-robin session, the swans invoked the cardinal rule, craned their necks, gave owl-eyed looks, goosed one another, groused, turned turkey, ducked the question, chickened out, walked away pigeon-towed . . . and remained mute.

One, though, (I think his name was Jay), is usually taci-tern, wren-ched his back by parroting the question, and then swallowed hard and sniped “This is our swan song, so please speak up – I’m having trouble heron you. The gull of some people – what loons! Like they never had an albatross around their necks?”

Birds of a feather, ya know?

Drones! With the war in Afghanistan drawing down, the Military/Industrial Complex will need to find new markets for their wares.
