I bet the Home money will be moving south to retire in a better tax and weather climate.

Christopher, check your facts and you'll see that the 50% layoff thing has never occurred anywhere. Pull your head out of the sand find where VestraCare has ever done that.

You're the one with a lot of B A L L S to scare the elderly residents and the employees without a shred of evidence.

By the way GeorgeB67, YOU voted to sell the home, not me! You have a LOT of B A L L S to even imply I did the employees a disservice! Wow...

GeorgeB67, you don't suspect that perhaps the new owners might not LIE!? No, of course not, why would he? I mean, he was only trying to talk a bunch of politicians into selling the home after all! No matter, their income, at least in the disposable sense, is probably halved. What do you think, could you afford that and maintain any sort of lifestyle? I know people working there that worked 2 jobs as it is. Don't try to make a silk purse from a sow's ear.

Christopher says "the new owners can't/won't hire at least 50% of the union employees back." Mr. Christopher you are doing a great disservice to the employees of the CCH by parroting this lie about not being rehired.

In fact, I directly asked Mr. Farvenblum that question, on the record, at the Q&A portion of VestraCare's presentation. Not only did he says it's not true. He also said they would be hiring back nearly everyone who passes the background/drug test and they have already been speaking with CSEA because the expect their private sector division to continue on as the union at the facility.

Last year the legislature passé a resolution requiring that the net proceeds of the sale of the CCH be put into a tax stabilization fund. This means that the money can only be used to keep the tax rate down. It cannot be used for any pet projects.

So, if the CCH was $14+ Million in debt, then it's better sold sooner than later, as it is a much larger money eater than previously reported.

Niebelj is correct of course, and unless people have been on Mars or Pluto for the last couple of years, it's been abundantly clear that there would be no savings from the selling of the CCH nor any decrease in taxes. When all is said and done, there'll be more people on unemployment as the new owners can't/won't hire at least 50% of the union employees back, and those hired to replace them will have a LOT less money to spend, adding more economic woe to the area. Yes, we are the highest taxed County in the country, with the least to show for it. The funny thing is how the loudest complainers think the entire state is doing as badly!

Great idea and that would all be well and good if the County would actually be getting $16 million. Unfortunately, by the time the debt is paid off, receivables are given to Vestra Care and all the other expenses are paid the County will end up with less than $2 million and that will be gone in a heartbeat. The taxpayers will see no relief from this sale.

HaveANiceDay....quit bellyaching and pay the subscription fee. The money will go to raises and benefits for county employees. If there is any benefit to taxpayers it will be a miracle. They will waste it per usual.
