NEW YORK (AP) — A Bronx man has been sentenced to life in prison for the murders of a woman and her 9-year-old daughter more than 25 years ago.
The Bronx district attorney's office says 49-year-old Robert Fleming was sentenced Wednesday after being convicted in July on two counts of murder following a four week trial.
Authorities say Fleming strangled and sexually assaulted 27-year-old Selina Cooper and her daughter, Joi Little, in their Bronx apartment in 1988. Fleming and Cooper had dated.
DNA evidence finally led to Fleming's arrest in 2009 following years of investigative work by cold case detectives. Fleming received two consecutive terms of 25 years to life in prison and won't be eligible for parole until he has served at least 50 years.
